can you tell me why this one and not a go-pro or a lumix?

arent Lumix and go pro $4-$500?

so price would be the reason

obviously this would not be for a mounted camera, strictly hand held videoing.

Not bad, but it has no optical zoom and is only waterproof rated to 4m

Looks like a very average unit to me.
8x Digital zoom - reduces the amount of pixels in the image when used. Digital Zoom on a 640x480 video would not be very good at all :(
12 MP Digital camera (interpolated using 5 MP CMOS sensor) - It's a 5 Megapixel camera at best. interpolation is cr @p
Video Resolution: 640 x 480 (VGA Mode), 320 x 240 (QVGA Mode) - is not even close to the HD video of the GoPro/Lumix/Pentax Optio W90 (1280x720 and up)
Waterproof case: Up to 4m - splashproof
Weight: 270g (without battery, rechargeable Li-Ion battery included). So I reckon about 500g with battery and case. No mounting this puppie.
Read the reviews, they are not glowing.

Save your money and buy a GoPro/Lumix/Pentax Optio W90

OK OK nice research, i just got the email and thought it was cheap (which it is) so thought i'd post it up here. I guess you get what you pay for.

My fiance has a waterproof lumix anyway so if i feel the need i can always use this, the purpose however of this thread was for gift ideas, otherwise it would have been titled differently.

So has anyone else got any christmas gift ideas for us fellow kiters?

close.... but no cigar...

I'd be happy with a couple of pups and a pussy.... I've always been fond of animals...

Knowing my luck tho.... Probably just get crabs and a fish cake....
