I just knew what this thread was about when I saw the title, was there today and saw that, and just knew I'd see it on SB tonight.
It was strange cause there didn't seem to be anyone around who owned it.

Wouldn't surprise me if the poor bugger got hit by a gust while waiting and waiting for someone to notice he needed a land.

Only been there a few times, but Melville doesn't seem to be the best example of community spirit in kiting.

What do u expect with 80% of kiters being beginners, 2m stretch of sand to set up and horrible patchy wind?

I found people there were super willing to lend a hand! but the wind was Shiite and launching and landing on that g tiny strip of sand with trees all around felt super sketchy.. don't know if I'll be heading back in a hurry.

feel sad for the guy who shredded his kite :/

the problem why alot of people aren't friendly is some of us who have been kiting there for years are sick of telling people to walk with their kites over the water , only to seconds later watch it fall from the sky into the trees . Politely tell someone to stop teaching their mate at the southern end and go to the northern end only to get fobbed off . personally i like melville but out the back where the wind is better and away from the kooks

First time to the river in over 3 years yesterday to do some teaching. Agree with everything that Dusta has to say. Hope the spot stays open............but honestly, what a cesspool! Never seen the algae so thick, disgusting.

I disagree.... The kite is positioned high in the tree. If you consider the length of the lines, the guy was being lazy and walking along the shoreline with his kite. As the wind gets all vortexy along the road it fell into the tree. If he was trying to land he would have been 25m out in the knee deep water. Dusta is right, problem is the local guys arent doing the walk of shame, theyre riding upwind of the carnage.

Hi all,
that was my kite in the tree. I was dropping my sunnies off on my towel when a gust took my kite from 10oclock to 1oclock being that pine tree and sat it on top..Probably being so relaxed with kites after so many years doing it was my downfall..
I am spuing as I couldnt get it down in the wind yesterday so I went back this morning more prepared to get it down to find someone has already taken it down. Double Pain...brand new kite too..

Offering $100 reward for any info leading to the return of my kite.

Melville's council have taken the kite... Too early for Christmas decoration!
Besides joking, I hope you recover your kite mate!

Bummer Andre.

For those who kite there, wait for a break with the walk of shamers, and put your kite over the water. Above your head and sooner or later the gusty wind dies and being side-onhore the kite drops to the tree/road side.

No one in the gumtree yet!Its an unusual season...

Well that sucks.. When I saw the pic I thought it wouldn't be too hard to climb up there and get it. I hope you get it back.

Not only launch and landing spot, but you also gotta dodge all the hotshots who feel they need to do their tricks 3m fron the beach.

Some people think inside the yellow bouys is the trick zone...

Did you know years ago Neil from hold the line kites planted the pine tree and gum tree as an investment in his business.
