One of the Darwin Kite Crew kids kiting, 11 years old on a 7m in 12 knots and was hit by a box jelly fish or also known as a sea wasp! His reaction is classic, check it out.

Edit by GalahOnTheBay: Warning - this one comes for a language warning for the kiddies, even if the kid in this clip could possibly out-swear the rest of us anyway!

If that was really a box jelly, that lil fella is one tough dude!

The Irukandji seems to hurt already, altough being a lot less severe than the box jellyfish:

And the box jelly:

That one needs a language warning - none the less thanks for sharing

Tuff kid though, good on him.

Loved the relaunch fast forward bit - it gave me flashbacks to any other day you put your kite down in the surf: Pull this - nope. Try pulling that. Nope, Ok let's try pulling that first on again...

im a windsurfer and the dangers of the jellyfish should be posted as a new topic on the shooting the breeze forums so surfers windsurfers etc are aware of it.

Mitch is a very polite kid, you hear it when he's asked if he wants Dads board to get back in!!!!

Like I said, what happens out in the paddock, stays on the paddock!!

When I was a kid, I had to be taken to hospital from getting a box jelly across the chest, oh man does it hurt, went into shock!

cheers,

Robbie

ps sorry Mitch, it was too funny not to share with the world!

... you can get wicked scars from the box jelly, can look like you've been hit with a cat-o-ninetails! The missus got hit on the ankels and months later, still has the scars!

A can of coke and Mitch was like it never happened, like Tone says, occupational hazard in the Territory, if you want some wave action, the wet season is the time to go but the old sea wasps are out in force!!!!

see ya, Robbie.

ps if you haven't worked it out Tone is Mitch's dad!!

Just watched those vids - so does that mean that the kid ended up in hospital in serious pain for days and days?

nah, had a can of coke and talked with the big boys enjoying a few beers. I think the pom ham'd it up a bit, you know, for effect!

hell no ^^^^ just shove some peroxide on it let it bubble and go for a kite repeat after kiting she will be sweet in 4 - 5 days . I know they should call me the foot cutter or goofey foot had so many cuts and i only found this to work . One catch though it can sting a little bit [}:)] but as they say harden the f up . You do what you got to do when the winds are up .

every time I step down it opens up, can't even run to the toilet in a hurry if I'm bustin for a pis$!! The last time I had a similar cut in my foot, I kept sailing (windsurfing back then), it took weeks to heal and bloody hurt every time I went out, turned me into a kook. I figured this time I'll listen to the missus and do it her way this time (she's a nurse), she promises I'll get back on the water sooner

cheers,

Robbie
