Hi Everyone,
With another abysmal forecast for less than 10 knots, we are going to abandon todays scheduled course racing and postpone until next Wednesday. ![]()
Unless we have a few people with XL sized kites, then there will be no one to race against. To those couple of people with X-Large kites, sorry guys, we want it to be fun for everyone on the first event so will postpone until next Wednesday. Once we get the racing established, we will race down to 8 knots
This is easily achievable with the Zephyr and Race Boards, John's 16m 2007 Flow also works well as does Dave's 20m Machine.
In the mean time, we always have the boards available for testing and practice so if you want to get along and have a go, come and see us.
Sorry again, I'm bummed too! ![]()

If racing is a 20mt kite with a 150cm+ board in (down to 8knts). I would rather see how long it takes me to get five fingers up my xxxx.
Seriously thats getting desperate. have a bbq and race when there is wind.
And how can you say still test the boards.....!!!!!!!!!!THERE'S NO WIND!!!!!!!!
Also great effort organizing events like this. Alot of places just don't care that much anymore or never have.
Howsabout?
10 points for trying to get this off the ground (literally) KH.
Sumpin diff from emulating Lenton etc and probably a joy for those into it.
Hi Guys,
I know what you think about light wind kiting and I felt the same way until I started using the combo of gear I mentioned in the first post. It really is quite challenging and really fun to ride in 7-8 knots.
Firstly, you are the only one on the water, whilst everyone else sweats it out on the beach watching you blasting around.
Secondly is the smoothness of the ocean and lack of ripples caused by the breeze when the wind is so light. You can see straight through to the bottom without all the ripples to obscure your vision.
Thirdly, it's much more peaceful and takes on a different ambiance and puts your head in a different space. Just the fact that you can cruise fast in next to no wind is a buzz, it almost defies logic.
And lastly, the thing most people don't like about huge old kites is that they a) don't relaunch, b) feel like trucks to steer and c) have very limited wind range. The kite that shall not be mentioned due to commercial considerations does all this and is fun to fly even to 20 knots.
I'm going to head down to Scarborough for a run this afternoon as there seems to be 8-9 knots. So if you are at all sceptical, drive by and have a look, I may not come in to the beach, but I will be blasting around and I guarantee I will be the only one on the water in all of Perth (unless Youngy gets out his 19m FS Speed and Spleen Door. ![]()
Cheers all,
KH
Mmmmmm,
Yum, big slice of humble pie! Managed to launch the kite, got out and kites 1/2 mile off shore then wind dropped right out and kite went down. Almost relaunched three times agonisingly close but not enough wind to pull the kite off the water, it was on it's wingtip with water all drained off, but not enough to get up.
Local clubbies offered a lift back. ![]()

Bummer, first rescue in 10 years. ![]()
Oh well! At least there were no flies 1/2 mile off shore.
