Any Canberra Kiters around? I'd like to get out on the lake: I'm an intermediate rider just returned to the ACT after years away. Tim

I have seen one guy out a few times this summer, but honestly just get a windwing and sup foil setup and you will get way more time on the water. Four of us have got them this summer and been out there pretty often.
Scotty is still running Wetspot Watersports if you need gear. See website or FB for contact info.

yo, I didn't think kiting was possible in this burg, seeing as it's prone to being gusty AF. Good news to hear there's folk around, my gear's been sitting in a cupboard since I've been back in the 'berra, going down the coast during the break which is why was surprised to find this thread.

@gibo, where do you guys launch/land? it'd be cool to check out what the deal is with the wing/foil setup on the lake. Presumably you don't go in the lake (ie get damp) if possible? I think of that water being terrifying (though I could be wrong).

Do you guys go from the boathouse or from yarralumla or something? What's the wind conditions you're looking for?

The only place seemingly suitable for kiting on Lake Burley Griffin is East Basin. Launch from the Boathouse / hospice. West Basin has trees around the foreshore, making launching and landing perilous. (Caveat: I am not a kiter, but have seen kites on East Basin more than occasionally).

For sailboarding / sailfoiling / wingfoiling, launch from Yarralumla Bay swimming area, or from the point either east orr west from there. Lake water is clean and likely to stay that way whilst the drought persists. It's the runoff that causes the algae.

Yes, NW winds can be gusty. Easterly winds are a lot more steady, but very smoky at the moment.

Scotty has closed his shopfront at Fyshwick, but still operates a limited service from home (ie he can order in equipment for you). Contact him through Facebook.

Yep, as Bristol said in a nw usually launch at yarralumla Beach, and in an easterly from the point east of the beach.
It's gusty AF, which works really well on the wing and foil cause you can pump through lulls and dump power easily. We are all on sub-7 foot SUPfoil boards and bigger surf foils.
