Does anybody know what the canary islands would be like for kite surfing (waves) from April through to August or so -

I think Lanzarote and Furtaventure, look like they could have some pretty nice set ups, does any one know of good spots and what the wind would be like and or other info

Thanks

Fuerteventura is the best of the two options in my opinion, it has long been a destination for european wave andnow kite sailors.

Lanzarote has a big local surf population who are very aggro and spoil any enjoyment you may get on the good breaks.

The North of Fuerte is best for Waves, stay in Corralejo and you will have a number of good spots with in a short drive.

Cotillo (a short drive west of corallejo) has a nice big beach for launching and has swellmost of the time.

Flag beach in town is another good launch spot and was pretty popular when I was last there. There can be a big wave that breaks between that beach and the small island offshore (isla de los lobos) which is great to ride.

Down south of the island there is some good flat water and big sandy beaches.

Been to both many times, go to Fuerte rather than Lanza, great surfing on the north coast track, Lanza has great waves too if you stay away from the locals. The time of year your looking at, there should be good waves down the southwest/west coast of fuerte too. The summer months are the best for wind, just be prepared for a huge influx of Germans. I highly recommend it, it has so many perfect set ups for all wind/wave options. Enjoy.

aye go to Fuerte as lanzarote has limited kite spots. Feurtes got a few, but beware wind is cross off, there is a rescue boat but you have to pay upfront, if you dont pay and just go out they will leave you. having said that they leave you do drift out a very long way until they come and get you if you have paid, bloody spainish wont rush. Corralejo is a bit fish n chips resort, slot machine arcades and cheap tacky shops, and is a taxi ride from kite spot, 5hitty beach in corralejo. there are two hotels next to kite beach but unsure of their names. Got a map of feurte somewhere will try and find it and let you know hotels names.

Look on www.fuerteventura.com. give lots of info. flag beach hotels are grandes playas. Which is the proper name for the beach, 5k from corralejo.

hi,

I was there last year. I was on Fuerteventura.

You have two choices. You rent a room in a hotel or something else in the north - I think Corralejo is the best place (nice restaurants for fish and meat) and a lot of bars and clubs. If you have a hotel in the old parts of the town in the north of Corralejo it is not busy and I have had a great view over the sea to Lanzarote with its lights flashing in the dark. It s not far away from the city center....perhaps 10 minutes walking through alleys.
You can go kitesurfing at the flagbeach. It is in the south of Corralejo at the dunes. You cannot get there by bus because the busdrivers dont let you in with kitegear. It takes 20 - 30 minutes by bike to get to the flagbeach from north Corralejo or you drive a rented car. A car is advantageous.
But the best think, in the north of Corralejo is the beginning of the dirt road to El Cotillo. The dirt road goes next to the north shore. There are a lot of good places for surfing. Not for kiting, because the coast has a lot rocks and it is very difficult to get into the water with kitegear.
In El Cotillo the sand is brown and there are large bays with a lot of place. Sometimes the waves are high. Very nice. In the norththe wind is not veray gusty because it comes from the sea. There is a rescue service. The station is doing this for you.

Or you rent a room in the south. Sotavento is very gusty because the wind comes over the mountains. In the morning the wind blows angular offshore and during the day it turn complete offshore.. They have a rescue-service but you have to pay for this service. The station is not very cheap. In the south there are spots like La Pared and Cofete. Cofete has powerful drifts. But nice beach. And the way over the mountains is very funny because the road is very narrow. The Lagoon at Sotavento isn`t full with water all the day. The flood and the moon have to be right. The bootom of the lagoon is very hard because of the sun. And if the water is there it is not very deep.

The month with the bes winds are June, Juli, August...Juli, and August are the best months.

I would go to the north. From the north you need 3-4 hours to get in the south of the island if you use a car.

I know my english is not godd but I hope I canhelp you.
