I have a question for anyone who may know.

Can a seat harness be used as a waist harness just by not putting your legs into the leg straps or is there something in the design of the seat harness that would make it not work if you did that?

Why do you want to do that?

Seat harness is usually bulky and designed for your butt and not waist. It will be too uncomfortable to ride.

You are new to the sport? Put some Vaseline on your balls so next time the leg strap does not catch... that's what the pros do... true story.

More seriously some Dakines were marketed as such a while back but they were really a compromise and was uncomfortable both ways...

Harness is perhaps the most important in kiting, don't compromise on that for sure, your back will thank you in the long run...

Iv got a north seat harness, works fine when you don't clip in the leg part you can even fold it in a pouch so it's kind of a hybrid style. That said I still use a waist when I take the sb out

Not sure what harness you are referring to but the seat harness i use ( dakine), haved used, has velcro attachment points to remove the seat and then it becomes a waist harness.
So yes it can be IMO.

Some experience..

My mate owns and managers the gascoyne hotel, he had a tenant that tried to skip town who he caught and took the only thing he had of value, Kite gear!

He gave it to me to sort out, the lines were in a total mess and the chicken loop was missing?

There was also a seat harness, I tried it ONCE, as soon as I sent the kite and stood up it was supper uncomfortable and the feeling of dirrectional pull was not what I was expecting.

I undone the strps arond the legs. It was actually ok and the only real dramas were the dangiling leg straps whith the end buckles slapping me around. and the lack of support I felt it had.

If the seat harness designed in away that the bar and hook are not in any way intergrated into the leg straps, I dont see why you could use it if its your only option

don't bother, it would be too painful/uncomfortable best advise if ya wanna go waist don't be a tight arse fork out some dosh and look at top of the line brands that the pro's use, trust me there's a reason why they use em, ive tried cheap as a noob to see what i preffered and and ended up with the top end harness.
