Hi,

I have an old 2007 Cabrinha powerdrive 121 bar, and I would like to convert it into an IDS bar, at least to have a centreline QR system.

Is it possible with certain adjustments? I think it could be done, but I would need all the necessary parts of an old (maybe 2009) IDS bar. Probably better just to buy an IDS bar. But what adjustments would I need to do on the kite (Switchblade 2)?

I am sure it can be done to convert a pre-2009 Cabrinha Switchblade 2 into a Switchblade 3 for example with a 2010 IDS bar. Any tech gurus out there care to explain how or why not?

Thanks

You'd probably have to replace every section of the bridle with identical 3mm bridle lines with a pulley in every section of the bridle, and even then I wouldn't think it will depower fully to two front lines. (I did that with an 07 Omega and it didn't flag out fully).

Or you could design your own IDS bridle for it and maybe use the bridle from another Cabrinha kite after you have had the kite reinforced where the bridle was going to be attached.

The hole in the bar is unlikely to be big enough to allow the centreline and the 09 IDS line to pass through and the 2010 or later powerlines wont pass through, so you will have to buy an IDS bar.

Or to put it another way - it wont be worth it and the kite will probably not fly well or be safe.

Hi Kazan
Not sure this is a wise idea, you could pick up a 2009 SB for around $450 or a 2010 for a little bit more, my 10m 2010 in good condition cost me $600. Be patient and watch the Buy&Sell pages so you are the first to jump on a bargain, IMHO would be far less frustrating than trying to redesign the bar & kite bridals. Maybe sell the 2007 for a couple hundred to offset the cost?
It is a shame, I have a perfectly good 2003 12m Cab CO2 and a 2004 14m Nitro which has only been flown about 6 times. Can't sell them to a noob on eBay because I'm too moral.

All my old kites are 07 cabs and I tried to think of ways to bring the flag line down to the chicken Loop through the hole in the bar . I found that it was just to hard .
Why change it anyway the safety is not that bad even though your riding suicide mode but the depower makes up for it .
Don't fix something that's not broken .
If your about to have a kitemare just QR it's better than being dead .
Like the others are Saying your better off buying a second hand kite that uses the IDS bar .

Thanks for the advice guys. You've all convinced me to wait and buy a kite with an ids system already.

Yeah, it is a shame. My 07 SB is awesome and I just wanted to see if I could keep the kite but upgrade the rest. Obviously not worth the hassle.

What do you think they are worth then? $200? Off to buy n sell then she goes!
