Revolver and contra has gone, but convert is still around and has new IDS system.

They've also got the Convert which is their beginners/price-point model, and they are all run on 1:1

there has been a decline in the kites, the SB IDS just doesn't have the same grunt as the old SB3 and SB2.

I disagree to a point, sure the IDS doesnt have that initial puch when you send it but it def turns quicker and seems to fly faster, results are more power that way.

Overall= The IDS system works without a hitch.
I prefer to shorten the reach on the chicken rope with the red stopper ball.
Prefer if the 'donkey dick' could be swivelled out of the way.
Bar is more comfortable and last years.
More hang time.
Better construction.

My 2 cents

what if i want that initial punch? its a kite i dont like the feel of, and that little fifth line thingy is going to wear away very quickly and there's already problems with the shackles on the middle lines.

Keep your 03 or buy a new one when they reduce them.

What particular reason do you want that initial punch, its similar to compare riding in constant wind as compared to gusty???

i want the initial punch because it suits me more for the wake style riding. i mean i have no problems with the kite its self its great for people getting into the sport and the newly added safety features are great, but it doesn't have that same feel.

i did look on the website but only the Switchblade and Crossbow are on there and i was wondering what other kites they are keeping, so i dont see why people gave it a red rating.

Interesting they got rid of the revolver and Contra was an old concept anyway. They should be careful of trying to change too much just for the sake of it. Other brands have learned their lesson from this.

you want initial punch then I suggest you try the Nemesis HP. Initial punch in power is what I have been raving about for years with the Best Cuben Firbre kites. The new Nemesis HP is the only kite I have tried so far that satisfies my style of riding.

I don't want to open a topic about Cabrinha and read about best - start a new topic called best

What he said, bloody annoying . Then the Flysurfer guy will butt in with the usual crap.

I have a switchblade IDS and would like to know about this problem you state above, with what you call the shackles, which I presume are the swivels on the front lines.

yeah the first batch of the IDS bar and lines where a bit faulty because the shackles didn't lock tight and where prone to coming undone. this is only the first few batches of the new kites, they have fixed the problem

i would recommend you go down to your local store and get it checked out Paul1 just to be safe

to all people wanting to buy the new IDS the problem has been FIXED.

There never was a problem with any production IDS kites.
The triangular barrel union joint that holds the front lines has a screw gate closure, some of the very first pre production kites were shipped from the factory without the screw gate being closed up.
Simple fix - screw the thing shut properly, pretty sure there was no issue with a kite sold to a member of the public in Oz.
We saw a couple of these things come undone, or better description bend open because they were not tightened, on the dealer demo trip.
Once we realised the issue, they were all checked and there were no more problems.

However, just check that yours is screwed closed properly.

Cheers for the feedback guys. I have just checked all of mine and they were only finger tight, so I have tightened them up with some pliers.

i noticed the SB4's bar slides past the stopper set up that existed on the SB3.

Should it have a tightener on it? Dont really like it going to 100% depower if I let the bar go.

On SB3 as long as you let the bar go at the stopper the kite would still fly.

Anyone know???

Apparently there are stoppers coming out in October, that everyone will get for free if they purchase their kite before. You can retro fit an old one if you cant wait till then, there is lots of info on kite forum on how to do this.

The stopper balls are being tested either today or tommorrow.

They will be available next month and supplied 'free-of-charge'.

All future production from August onwards will have the new parts.

Don't forget these are 2009 kites we are talking about - still early days yet...
