How many kitemares here go unreported I wonder.
Man, I had to check it twice, it looks like that happened on 23rd of February, 2009.......and it was in the UK......WTF?
Did u guys not get any wind up north over the weekend?
The less these incidents are reported in the mainstream media the better for the image of our sport.
If there is anything to really remember from such incidents (kiter separated from his kite or very long self-rescues far from the shore) is that when you make it back to shore you MUST ensure you identify yourself as the kiter in trouble to the rescue parties as there is a very high chance people are looking for you.
There's been multiple cases when kiters lost their kites, made it shore, and just drove back home! Any rescue team deployed will rightfully assume there is a missing person when a kite is adrift with no one attached to it.
The No. to ring in Perth 08 9442 8600.
Thats the Water Police who will coordinate any action that may be needed.
The important thing to remember is to call & let them know you are OK if you have lost your kite.
Avoid the massive sea & air search that WILL happen if there is a chance that there may be a kiter may be out there somewhere.
