Hey all,
I'm a newby with some wakeboarding experience. Had just the one lesson on my last break (FIFO worker) and i've been practicing with my 2.5 ozone trainer up north (had some fun with that). I live in Bunbury and am looking at getting a kite soon to take to my second lesson. I've been recommended the Switchblade. I'm 80kg and the instructor I had my lesson with suggested a 12m kite would be ok for me around the Bunno area. It does sound big but I guess it would be good to be able to go out in the lighter winds. Anyone from around Bunbury/SW area have any suggestion on kite size/brand and board size?

This is my last swing up North so i'll be back living in Bunbury full time in a few weeks and hopefully be able to start learning with out hurting myself or anyone else. If any noobs or anyone else are keen to meet up for a run once I get my gear that would be appreciated.

Hi SWkiter - I live and learnt to kite in Bunno. Im also about 80kg. My first kite was a 3 year old 05 CrossBow 12m - made by cabrinha same as switcblade - Its a good choice the SB very forgiving and great depower also the latter models have this thing called IDS - makes landing on your own a dream - I had a 10 & 6. Bunbury does not get the same good seabreezes as perth. So a 10 or 12 is a good size. You also have a fantasic place to learn on the flat at the Australind Estuary. Buy a cheap wind gauge from dick smith - it will serve you well as you learn to judge conditions. Def see your lessons through to getting up and going.

Thanks Ranga.

I've been speeking to a couple of the Perth shops and also a workmate with 5 years experience and it sounds like your right about Bunbury breeze not being as strong as Perth. So I've gone and bought myself a new 11m switchblade (2011) I'm looking at a caribrina custom board aswell. yes, I will take more lessons when I'm back in Bunno.

Australind Estuary does look like the perfect place to learn.

Cannot wait to get out there!
