Hey,
IS there anyway to self fix/replace a best depower line ala the plastic sheathed rope that the bar slides up and down on?
I figure not, since its sewed at the bottom...

or should I replace whole setup with a spinning system and what is recommended? I have been wanting one for a while.
Sundays wind was awesome.
On a bad note: I saw some very dangerous moves with some kites over the beach. (ala kiteloops over the beach where people were playing/walking, bad launching, newbies crashing kites with lines going over beachgoers... said kiters had gone by the time I came in.
with a good NE wind i decided to do Brighton le sands <-> Kurnell runs.
On the return leg of the second trip my depower line snapped up by the top knot. Approx 1.5kms from the beach.
it was about time I practised the self rescue. A jetskier came out and asked if I was ok, he took my board in for me (ahh I should have fixed my leash - but jetskiers can be good for something sometimes! :)
finished winding up my lines and eventually got the kite up and dragging me into shore. Only a few thoughts about the Ubers Shark postings and such articles as
www.smh.com.au/national/reeling-in-great-white-sharks-from-our-surf-beaches-20051023-gdmax7.html
The Coastguard came by and had a nosey, but didnt offer assistance. I guess they know the trouble involved in a boat rescue, and I was happily sorting my mess out.
it only took me 10mins to untangle my lines when I got home :) very stoked, was thinking that would be a few days work.
So yeah, any recommendations on spinning setups greatly appreciated.
Moby,
I noticed you doing the Kurnell Run and also when you were down and unable to launch for a while.
It was I who called the Jet skier to go over to you to see if you were OK. The father then went out to check again and retrieved your board.
Re depower line, I'm not familiar with the best set up but it is really easy to get some Dyneema line from KP and with a FID tool, splice the rope to make a new depower line.
Then you can get a Airush CL that has a very simple spining leash attachment and mate the two together and connect to your depower straps.
I'm not familiar with the Best set up because they have had so many changes.
Talk to me next time you're down at Brighton I was on the Black 15m Fuel.

Hmm, someone once told me "if you can't see it, you can't inspect it".
Point of the story is that any setup which has pieces which can not be checked for wear and tear will fail without warning.
I'd ditch the plastic so that at least you can see what's going on, and replace it before it needs changing rather than after it has broken at potenially the last possible moment.
Hey Moby,
Bummer about the snapped CL. I share your pain. Couple of weeks ago I was floating around Boat Harbour and my safety leash snapped off and I lost my kite. I also learnt afterwards that Boat is popular with GW's breeding. My lines were spagetti however when I recovered the kite at Wanda Surf Club. (still dont have the energy to untangle them)
You might have to get a new CL and Depower strap. It may only cost you $50 I know a North Depower strap costs $25 from KP. Depends on if you can re attach the CL to the depower strap. It is easy to do. KP has loads of spares so you can go in and get their advice also.
Good luck with it!
