Hi,
I am heading to brisbane for work in a few weeks for a week long course. I searched for the local spots and I think the closest ones are redcliffe or wellington point (any suggestions?) is there any local rules i need to know about, I don't want to upset the locals. or can someone give me the heads up on the best place to set up and launch etc.. should have a GPS in the hire car.

here's a tip.. draw a long scar down the side of your neck to about half way along your collarbone.. with this you should fit right in 
if you go to brighton at the end of 19th ave there is a little bit of beach to set up on just dont go there when the tide is to high it gets a back wsh of the wall and its hard to hold ground there is also sangate,queens and wellos good just dont like the feel on the feet ie;muddy toe jam . also there is a kite store at the other end of 19th ave if you do go to brighton just watch out for the reef 500yards north east of the beach it does have some markers out there if not just ask a local ......extra bonus pionts if you ride a north kite

sandgate from 8-9th ave there is a good friendly crew. Weekend will have upwards of 30 riders out but my advice is to pump upwind andhead out towards the pier. (learners wont head that far out!) Correct its like a brown sandy bottom but there's no rocks or anything to bust your feet up on. Bust your airs and no probs if you land feet first as it's not hard sand... also its like 2 mtr water out to about 400 mteres off shore. Also Surfconnect and Kitepower have guys there who can help you out.. See Rhys from Kitepower or Padi from Surfconnect. Located at the carpark just opposite the public swimming pool/park. Surfconnect have a van there with gear so if you want to get whatever I'm sure they will have...
19th ave Brighton is good also. Queens beach and also suttons... (Redcliffe)
Launching gets sketchy as so many kooks but suss it out for yourself.. Location is all good and the codburgers from the fish and chip shop are awesome!

Brisbane is so awful. Drive an hour to the gold/sunshine coast - realistically it takes an hour to get to mudcliffe from the CBD anyway. That kitepower shop is good though they sell heaps of cool stuff, don't go in there or you'll buy something.

So the info was related to brissy spots, not sunshine coast spots....
yeh I agree down at the pool is the best spot by far ,all you learners should come down and pay us a visit,tell em mofo sent ya!
Can you kite at the beach at southbank? looks like it would be cross-onshore in a NEaster
I believe there is a ban on rigging and launching in the Wellington Point Reserve, so you are obliged to rig and launch below the high tide mark, or something like that.
Wello is a good ride but bring your booties for the oyster shells that lurk in the soft mud, be prepared to get your kite a bit dirty due to the rigging area being below the high tide mark.
Brighton is good up to an hour either side of high tide from NE to SE, Northerlies get pretty gusty there.
