I have a Core Riot XR 2011 9m.

Recently I tried out the new XR3 2014 and noticed that the kite had more power and turned a lot quicker than my 2011 XR.

The promotional video explains the changes in kite arc and the bridal length has been shortened to increase turning speed.

I have set the outer lines on my kite to the direct turning speed and the other setting along the front edge is set for light bar pressure.

My question is, can I shorten the length of the bridal system on my old kite without effecting the entire design and performance of the kite allowing it to turn quicker or would would this just be like moving the front edge of the kite forward and de-powering it?

There is a standard knot/loop connection on the system and I was thinking of shortening it by one inch to see if it had any affect.

cheers.

This guy has a pretty quick Core. Maybe you can take a leaf out of his book

Have modified quite a few bridals myself over the years but usually to convert an extra long bridal to a mini bridal,I would only reccomend if you know what your doing ,the short answer to your question changing the attach point by an inch is going to make no real difference.
However shortening the whole bridal to a mini bridal will increase the reactivity of the kite ,to do this you have to be careful to keep the attachment point in direct line with the existing attachment point or you will change the kite totally.
For example if you shorten the bridal and move the attachment point more toward the tip of the kite it can increases power output and makes the bar heavier,if the attachment point moves closer to the centre of the kite then you can get the opposite effect power decrease faster pivot and lighter bar.
I have usually made up a completely new bridal in the past out of bridal line I have sourced so that you can always go back to the standard one as a reference point.
Before you start it's best to map out the old bridal on paper and then draw out the new bridal keeping the attachment point in line with the old one but moving it toward the kite.
Or it may be better just to upgrade to the new model
If the attachment points are similar on the new model you could always buy a new bridal to retrofit to your kite.

Thanks Radman for your reply.

I have the day off tomorrow and will try it out to see if it does have any difference.

New kites are on the agenda, finances permitting, so I just wanted to see if there was a fix in the interim.

Been trying out a few different ones to see which I like and which suits my budget.

So many choices!

Happy kiting.

Yea it is

Seriously though English was never my strong point can't really rely on the spell checker for that one.

... making bridle shorter means that you'll change the angle of attachment to LE which means you'll be changing the amounts of pressure per attachment point, thus changing the dynamics of the kite.

I was doing repairs on my old Core XR 17m bridles when I decided to experiment while I as at it. I shorteded and lengthened various parts of the bridle system, just to see what happened to the kite and at the end of the day, they got it just right with the original bridle. A cm here and there did make a difference and none of them made it better, so I ended up leaving it.

Each adjustment did occasionally make one part of the performance increase but made the overall feel alot worse. I'd say the new kites are exactly designed with short bridle in mind with exact amounts of pressure per attachments. Change one and the whole thing is upset.

Do it and see how you go, at least you get to understand how things work.

cheers,

Robbie :)
