Bow kites do everything better !
04/07/2007
30th of June 2007 was a special day for the kitesurfing world:
Less than two years after the introduction of the Bow kite concept on the market, a EH Ripper. WON the Cabarete PKRA Men event, a Cabrinha Switchblade made 4th while a Best Waroo WON the Women Freestyle even and a Cabrinha SB WON the Women Board Off contest.
So three of the four titles went to flat kites.
It's also the first time in the PKRA history that an unknown rider wins an event.
We at Diamond White are glad to congratulate dominicans ARIEL CORNIEL, ALEX SOTO and german SUSI MAY.
Congratulations to designers Pat Goodman from Cabrinha and Eric Hertsens from EH Cabarete for designing these great kites.
Both companies are Diamond White patents' licensees.
The ultimate argument used by the C-kite addicts was that Bow kites are not as good as C-kites for hardcore freestyle and they often refered to the pro-riders that don't use Bow kites in comps.
On our side we announced one year and half ago that the Bow would soon excel even in free-style.
It is now clear with the new high aspect ratio generation of Bow kites as the EH Ripper. Eventually we had to wait that a new generation of riders use Bow kites in comps, because the free-stylers that are used to C-kites can't easily transfer their skills using Bow kites.
Whatever their talent is, and we know it's huge, it was noticeable to the experienced spectators that the Bow riders spent less time going upwind, so had more time for their tricks.
Moreover they were well powered at any time during their heats while the other riders were sometimes slightly over or under powered.
Now Bow kites do everything better !

I think comparing a c kite and a bow kite is a bit like comparing apples and oranges dont you think?
Well Steve,
That's a novel approach from you.
You post up Bruno's stupid (but provocative) quote that claims the impossible,
so you can begin a thread to advertise your latest stock intake.
The smart shopkeeper who never stops hype-ing.
The hard-sell.
The Balo vendors could learn a lot from you.
lol.
This debate has been done to death, man.
You need to dream up a new marketing act.

I still find it amazing. A complete unknown 15 year old kid who is an instructor and development rider for EH in Cabarete.
This is the only PKRA world tour event young Ariel gets to compete in because he is a minor and EH aren't really a big budget company.
Eric had been telling me about how good he is for a while though. Eric just pays for a couple of them to enter the comp for the fun and experience.
Ariel comes along and blows their doors off with a whole bag of double kiteloop tricks no one on the circuit has even seen before.
EH is going to send him to some other events now though.
Makes me wonder:
a. if there are many more young Ariels out there who could be, should be but don't have the money or simply don't know just how good they are.
b. what he might be able to achieve if he were able to compete in a whole season.... hoping to find out next year![]()
But yes it is a big thing as the PKRA has been compltely dominated by C's and I don't think this will be a one off.
Eric assures me the new 08 Ripper is absolutely awesome, as Bruno Leginaux (developer of bow kite and inflatable kite) who wrote the link Steve posted and Eric work closely on developing the higher aspect Bows AR5.5 and higher.
Also interesting further down on the page is the result of a law suit of the Bow kite inventor against Globerider.
Cheers
John
at that level it comes down to the rider's skill, not the type of kite they are hanging on to. many top pros would still be stomping the latest moves whether they were flying 2 line kites from 1999 or the latest SLE
sheesh...
I don't think any one kite is 'better' than any other. Each kite has different characteristics which may be joy to one person and hell to another.
<insert the name of the kite owned by the person posting> is the very best kite ever made and its the best at upwind and the best at jumping. boring......zzzzzzzzzzzz.
Of course the pro's are riding bow's. That is what many of the kite companys are trying to sell. As for sb2's as far as i know cabrinha dosn't even sell a c kite any more so the company isn't going to give it's pro's an old co2 now are they! They would never sell there bow's.
Good one Steve would not expect anything different from you, Go the Bow kites Im sure people will be fighting one another to get to your shop and buy one before they all sell out , would you please put a quiver of sb3 kites away for me as you have convinced me.![]()

Hey Steve
I recsll giving an absolutely glowing report about the first Windwing Rapture I purchased when it was first released in 04.
It seemed to be the way to go as far as I was concerned, especially in relation to the huge de-power available to handle nasty gusts.
I pointed this out to the majority of riders at my local spot and suggested that we would see kites move in this direction (flat kite) in the future.
Looks like the prophecy has been fulfilled.

Full bore donut puncher. ![]()
Kite are illevant when skill comes to that level.
But about the kite, its hardly a 'bow' kite?? Have you seen the curve of the canopy?

Take care to purchase your BOW kite from one of these brands. Their BOW kites have a Certificate of Authenticity sewn on.
So the article I posted that started this thread is an advert for all of those brands of kites.
This is good news for them and bad news for those companies that have stolen from Bruno for so long. If it were not for Bruno none of you would be enjoying either C or Bow kites.
If it were not for Bow kites I would not have kited in the winds we had yesterday, nor would or did anyone else on C kites.
I'm not saying anything negative about C kites, if you like them good for you, we still stock a couple, and certainly support anyone who chooses to persist with them.
The response from some of you C kiters was predictable though, as I stated from the outset. ![]()

Notice how in Bruno's original post he mentions that a best waroo won the womens freestyle comp and then does not mention Best as a patent holder.
Does he reckon that the Best waroo is infringing his patent then?
Strange to mention a non official bow kite in your bow kite pimp.
Regards the comp here is a different perspective
"6th place! Bad result!
The event brought good wind but it was harsh conditions, the chop was the biggest I had seen all week but the good winds made up for it.
In the first round I got knocked out by a local rider, I think I got harsh deal, everyone I spoke to thought I had gone through and every time I looked at him during my heat I saw him in the water off his leash or going for his board. But anyways that’s the way it goes sometime and you have to deal with it, close decisions can always go either way."
Aaron's blog from www.aaronhadlow.com
I don't want to detract from Ariel's victory (which according to the double elimination final was convincing) in difficult (but local) conditions but home turf does sometimes have an advantage.
I think it is good to see some newcomers do well in contests. I remember a certain young "Dre" who did a similar thing a few years back. It is good to see the underpriveliged get a chance at a sport and more importantly career that can give them a good chance.
I have seen it in other sports. and I myself had a similar experience where I was encouraged to start Alpine Slalom Ski Racing on a local artificial slope by the slope manager. He gave me the chance to work at the slope (from the age of 13 years) to give me free access to the slope and free training. In a couple of years, of hard work putting in 30 - 40 hours a week training (on top of school work and working at the slope) I was in the top three nationwide in my age group. I was part of a team of local kids who had never skied before the slope was built, and were taken under the wing of the slope manager / Race Club Coach to prove to the establishment (British Ski Federation and English Ski Council) that you don't have to be called Henry and go to Eton to be a good ski racer. We certainly caused a stir the first year of racing!!!
Access to good conditions, access to good equipment and the enthusiasm and dedication to put the hard work in to succeed will make anyone a top level athlete, (maybe not the best but still top level) Well done Ariel keep it up. The way you are going sound similar to the way that Aaron himself started with Jason Furness / Flexifoil recognising the potential in a 12 year old kid and supporting him all the way to 3 world championships and maybe more.
Not sure where that all came from.
Cheers
Matt
my only conclusion to people who claim this kite is better than that kite overall or want to show how well a kite design went in a comp is the fact they either sell the kite designs or suffer from some form of compulsive egomaniac disorder.
I will state the obvious - C kiters who think they are hard will always ride a c kite and say hoe crap bow kites are, bow kiters who think bows are advance, better, more open minded and all the other stuff .. blah ..blah ...blah ...will do likewise!
here is just a sugestion...shop owners - stock both types and those suffering psychological problems seek cognitive therapy. then we can talk on the KITE forum about more important things like global warming and kiteboy antics!
congrads go out to the bow kite for winning the event ![]()
The hobbit got some nibbles!!!
This is fun to see! Spinning for trolls.
Why is this sport (or is it just Seabreeze contributors)focused on the brand and style of the equipment?
Last I saw it was a human on the podium and the most consistent human who trained the hardest won the world championship.
Ride what you want, where you want and how you want. If it makes you happy then that's what kiting is all about.

So again we have the Bow/SLE v C debate or should I say banter, what the f$%k is going to happen when the Helix is released with their jagged, pointy sh!ty looking piece of hybrid slop later this year....is it going to be Flat vs C vs "?what would you call it" debate then....
Or maybe it will fly like most of the kites from that company, and just not be regarded anyway....
A kite is a kite, whether flat or C, the question is, do you enjoy riding it, then great enjoy..and be happy...
I agree partially with what Steve claims.. in that bows do do SOME things better than C-Kites, like Invert, get more bridle tangles and take longer to set up ![]()
When will this topic finally cease!?
It seems to go around and around and continually brought up to no avail.
State it once, and let people make up their own minds.
It only seems to divide people and cause the 'bow-foil-c kite' dispute.
Yeh. Get over it, ya don,t here the poley's bickering over this rig is better than that, ra ra, etc etc. It's all good
Nuttin but luuurve. ![]()
