Not sure if I've been spoilt in the past but I have recently moved from far northern suburbs where my local was the spot and various locations around Quinn's to now my local being Mullaloo.
I have kited Mullaloo many a time over the years pre and post council kite zone and I was a active supporter during the council fight.
What my beaf is what's the general opinion on Learners and body draggers out at Mullaloo ?..
I personally am not a fan... Today was a pain in the arse with 1 in the shore break right smack in the middle of the kite zone between the markers. Argh
My opinion is this area is fairly sacred and at best a bit of a confined space, pinnas is close enough and ideal for noobs so why why why do people insist on using this small kite space to learn.
Yes I know everyone has the right to learn and the ocean is big enough for all blah blah blah .... Oh and the latest whine will be from some Vic or qld saying stick your post onto the WA section......
Over and out.
on this topic melville is now total kooksville. F##$cking blowin instructors . there is one twat from SOS who i have asked to move to the north end of the beach only to watch him on three seperate days since xmas day teaching body dragging . Now today was the icing on the cake . Virtually at the southern end of the beach with two students . 20-25 knots bordering on out of control for these students. trying water starts right where everyone who is competent is trying to launch or land . Watched his student wrap his kite around another person . ****ing disgrace . Obviously my phonecall to the shop has done nothing if anything made him go further south down the beach .
Mullas not Melville Dusta.
They should go to Pinnas and you should have told them to also.
i meant the first part of the topic . body draggers and learners :)
It's a big ocean mate, just go further out![]()
I knew this would be the first reply, some of us are not into lawn mowing out in the ocean and want to use the waves and shore break the spot has to offer.
I agree NickT, I chose not to confront as I was not completely sure of what is accepted at mullaloo. I can handle a certain amount of kooks, however its the unpredictable body draggers and guys learning kite basics standing in the shore break in the middle of a exclusion zone that ****s me.
come and introduce yourself buzingfridge, I'm Tony, I'm one of the only 2 instructors who work for Kite boarding Perth, we have a council permit to teach at mullaz, I was there today fly'in a green 7m rebel, also watching 1 of our students bodydragging, we've been teaching at mullaz since 2005 ![]()
Massive work has been done in the past to keep kiting at this location and STILL continues![]()
There are good days and bad days at Mullaz, Mates teaching Mates etc,etc........
Two options ![]()
I live 400m from mullaz kite beach and have given up there this summer. Waves are too close in and too many people cutting in front. Pineroo is always good for a beer and a laugh but mullaz is getting that way also unfortunetly. The council shoulf recognise that there are more kitesurfers than any other beach users and open the beach up accordingly at certain time frames. Say 230 onwards as no one swims surfs after anyway. And maybe have two sections. One for lessons/learners (and twintips) and other for experienced kiters (surfers). Thoigh i must admit the mullaz locals are awesome and such a good vibe in winter. And you cant blame the learners coming this way after seeing the carnage at pineroo! Three lessons on self rescue at once, drown kites and loose dogs and fisherman. Oh and nazi windsurfers!!

YES I AM THE BALD GUY THAT FLY's THE SLINGSLUT RPM'S
LIVE TO FLY
Don't you mean move east or west along the beach at Melviille???
no north and south , go look it up on google maps .
Yep that was me, like I said I was not sure what the norm is at mullaz hence not making a scene. Every one learns at some stage I just struggle with the concept on such a busy beach that is limited for kite space. I think it was your student I said g'day too he said he was about to do some body dragging and I just asked him if he had anyone watching him and if he new about the exclusion zone markers.
Tony I'm pretty sure you saw in that 10 min period what I saw being what looked like a mate teaching a mate in the shore break
a runaway kite from a crossed line setup, then as I was walking back to the car a guy holding and launching a kite with a 2 year old child at his feet.
I've windsurfed since I was 10, and kited the last 6 going on 7 seasons with many of seasoned regulars north of the river. I've been first on scene to some horrific kite accidents, and seen almost every scenario possible unfold on the beach involving kiters, experienced and novice.
I came in today because I was starting to get overpowered on my 9 due to being strapless but also because I didn't like what I was seeing.
In any case next time I see you I will introduce myself. Understandably this is a silly time of year and it was Sunday. I generally have the luxury of kiteing whenever the wind is in what ever the day. Maybe I just need to pick my days better or find a new passion.

100% spot on.
Strange day yesterday, mates teaching mates( not the norm but credit where its due, mate teaching mate on a blade, the teacher actually saved a kitemare with his quick thinking and prevented a deathlooping kite cleaning up the beach
)
Two young kids prob about 15 & 12, messing around in the shallows on kites, showing off to other mates, they think their cool, have I painted the picture !!!!!!!! Had a quiet word when beach walkers became involved ![]()
Two families watching" dads and husbands" kite, young kids spent most of the time jumping in the waves, right in the way of the slash & hackers !!
Silly season indeed ![]()

O.K, enough is enough, I've had 2 sms's & a phone call about this thread, if you can't read between the lines here it is in black and white.
Some people either have short memories or none at all
Mullaloo beach is open for kiting due to the massive effort from ROB GANNON, the owner and operator of Kite Boarding Perth, yes other people we're involved BUT NONE more so than Rob, he doe's all his work behind the scenes(and continues to do so) with no fan-fair. IN SHORT, NO NEWBIES, NO KITESCHOOL, Rocket science or what ![]()
Mullaz is a great place to kite with a great local crew that self-police the sport better than any other location I've seen but sometimes you have to wonder if its really worth your effort![]()
Happy kiting ![]()
h .... Oh and the latest whine will be from some Vic or qld saying stick your post onto the WA section......
Over and out.
Why would you not post it in the WA section? Should we just get rid of all state sections?
Id personally like any beginner to be trained by a QUALIFIED instructor. Any kiteschool with a permit will be a lot more proactive than mates with no idea how to teach, not respecting local rules, and being a danger to everyone especially when its busy. People have to learn and I dont like the idea of using option 2.
Part of the problem is, Pinnas is just about gone, no beach left and learners are showing up at Mullaz now. I drive further north or south to get away from the building crowd. Fact is Mullaz is probably maxed out on busy days already.
One or two guys budy draging is all this beach can handle, so any mates teaching mates should pick a totaly diffrent location.

Agreed. It's not "General" now is it?

No. Other states (usually) don't post their local whining in the General forum. But it looks like anything goes, so maybe they will start.

Yeah because it can be categorized as general whining.. der
Seriously though, are you guys that retarded you can't not click on a thread you apparently have no interest in?
Handy hint: when you see a thread you have no interest in, lower your eyes a tiny bit.
Otherwise.. Happy new year!![]()
