Just got a new Flexifoil Delta 138 board and it rides well in flat water but the splash to the face in chop is unbelievable. Just wondering if it is it likely to be the way I am riding or whether some boards typically do this more than others? I am coming off a Nobile 555 and that has pretty much zero splash in the same conditions.
Cheers,
Dan
boards with this special feature are commonly known as "porn actress boards"
a spray in the face is inevitable.![]()
try moving your straps closer together.
Yeah, was trying to think of a way to word it so it didn't sound like I was talking about a porn movie but looks like it didn't work... ![]()
Think I already have it on the closest setting unfortunately. Pretty dissappointing then, looks like there might be a brand new Flexifoil board going cheap if anyone is interested... Back to the FLX or the 555 then i'm thinking.
well as its a new board you will get a lot more than normal, give it 5 sessions and you probably wont get much spray at all as you will have adapted your stance to avoid the spray. if its spraying you because of say holes where you can put fins ect then wax them up or if its the hard ware on it then its bad luck as results will be worse.
I have been riding the 134 Delta and the 133 Omega and the 144 Alpha and I have not noticed any real spray in the face at all with any of the boards. The only time I have had spray is when I have put too much front foot pressure on the board and bury the board nose a bit.
I have the boards set up on the maximum width stance though if that helps.
Get some sunnies
A very good idea even without excess spray.
Especially if, later in life, you want to be able to tell the diff between hot babes and a lamp post. No-one likes to go the snog and get a mouth full of splinters...![]()
duck duck duck... narrow stance is just stupid, it serves no purpose and will only set you back as a rider. My advice for not getting any spray is try different riding position (edge more/less, twist your upper body, move your weight over to one side) or just go faster and check how the spray hits you ie where the spray comes from and why.
Then again, you are practicing a watersport so I think you should be able to deal with some water in the face. I get the occasional spray in the face from my board too (North Cesar Pro) but I don't complain. It's just water mate
Who was the sales person who convinced you that it was worth changing away from Nobile to flexifoil......... I am looking for a new salesman for my business, i would like to get one this good.
Came off the Nobile cause I wanted something a bit bigger. Should have tried a few first I know but not always possible with location etc so grabbed the Flexi as it sounded like a pretty good spec and was one of the ones thay had in stock.
I have tried a few riding positions and it has still been an issue. I have no doubt that most of it is because of the way I am riding but to be honest don't want to have to re-learn how to ride at this point especially when the board I was coming off didn't have the same issue.
Trust me I'm not afraid of a little water either, not seeing where I am going or not seeing the next wave is the issue!
Rusty - Saw in one of the other posts you've got an FLX and 555. How do you decide which one to use out of interest? Do you have a preference of one over the other?
555 isn't that good, it suits lighter riders. the 666 is the men's board, i think it's a bit stiffer as i didn't have the same problems when landing as i did with the 555.
the new 666 looks awesome but.
