Yes fun looking but way too close to becoming yet another tragedy video..
Video certainly makes people do stupid things for 2 seconds of fame.

That's defo huge!

I was always wondering with those big jumps, do you really need to loop the kite prior to landing?
I understand that this is necessary when you do megaloops because of the free fall.
But when you just send the kite using the waves as a kicker and you're underneath the kite the whole time, is it necessary?

So far I've only jumped like 6-8 meters (estimated) and never had to loop the kite prior to landing.

I found with doing 15m+ jumps that it's not nessesary to downloop to land well but when I don't loop I find I fly the kite across the window then time the redirect to soften up the landing and have come to the conclusion that it's easier to just down loop it as it's just one bar movement. And a well timed down loop softens up the landing a hell of a lot more than just a redirect

Awesome boosts! But what do they have to lie about the wind speed? that doesn't look anything like 50 knots. Its more like 30 knots.

Kajo - there are few factors involved with Heli loops being used in big jumps with big winds. The main reason is to try and slow a bit and soften the landing.

If you've ever been out in very strong cyclone type wind, youll notice that you cannot stand on the beach. With the bar near full out and the drag on the kite - your off sliding barefoot down the beach.

When you boost very high and come in hot, the wind speed is that fast, that trying to throw the kite forward for a butter soft style landing doesnt work very well..

The kite speed being thrown forward may be the same or less than the wind speed.. basically meaning you cant create lift to soften or slow you down.

When you heli loop the kite, it rotates back into the wind, this creates some lift as you swing under and forward of the kite - creating a slight parachute brake effect. Time it wrong and the kite can roll behind dropping the lines over you, then it just might power up..

It takes a lot of skill to land at 'very high speed'...

Can't say what the actual wind speed was but I was out in that bay a couple of months ago in 30+ knots (30 gusting 35ish) and the water was flatter and there was a lot less spray. It got pretty busy on the water when it was 30 knots (the windsurfers seem to rock up then). No-one else out there on his video so you'd think its a pretty windy day.

Would you accept 40 gusting 50 as a fair assessment?

Max landing 5.5G!!! I land that hard popping off the top of a wave. That's good skills!

This is way more than 30 knots. Maybe 30knots has more power in freezing NZ but to go this high in Perth I would need 40 knots for sure

I'll concede that that the vid is probably 35-40 perhaps with occasional 40+ knot gusts.
50 knot gusts are so incredibly violent that boosting big is almost impossible.

This is 40-50. What is blown all to hell and back.

Its the beach at El Medano in Tenerife. Nice place to visit if you are in Europe. Bit far to fly if you aren't.

i agree. we had 50knot winds at my place with TC debbie, and we had damage to the house, glass window shattard, uprooted trees, tramp was lost and my tinny ended up blown off the trailer. and then the wind got stronger!!!
50knots, what a joke!

dont be a noob, you gotta downloop, otherwise you dont have evough speed to land a big boost!
