Whats the best strapless surfboard for kitesurfing?
Misguided responses, yea nahs and blatant pimping acceptable. 
I guess it depends on the conditions your riding in, but I love my North Wam for bay Chop!
Strapless is soooo free, totally connected with conditions, waves, equipment and technique, my stoke, i am hooked.....
If you are not falling off, need no extra power with lack of floatation, and can ride round carving and having fun, then your board rocks!
F-One Signatures are still doing the biz for me.. light, fast, lively, etc... and the best deck grip ever!
Gold Coasters can still kite their regular surfboards with ease, tho kite specific boards offer increased control and performance.
... #1 rule..... do you ride and look like a surfer???
Sugar cube is my go to board for most conditions. If its really big (North or South) I take out the Katanna and for really fat waves I use the BWS. The North WAM was sold brand new as did not like (so friken stiff!). Conditions and style will determine your 'good board.' I love the sugarcube as goes upwind, looses the tail predictably and has enough volume for the fat days (look at the tail) but has enough 'rail' to dig in a bottom turn. (AND THATS NOT A LEASH, MUST BE WEED!!) And unfortunately I pay for my boards but Ray and Dave how about some discount!!

Its either an alternator or taj. And yes dont kite on firewire boards (though they feel so good!!!) As they do snap very easily.
and in west oz we have wind everyday (not once a year like in qld) so sun protection is very important
Also I have a knee recons atm so if you need a board give us a yell!!

talk to me about that sugar cube,
looks similar to a board i was on last week and looks very close to what i am after
Two sizes 5'6" and 5'10" which is the almost the same as last years 5'10" just slight changes to the rail, pads placement etc. 5'6" has a rounder rail line and a bit less rocker.

+2 for the sugar cube. The board just flat out rocks! When this one is dead I will get another. Better not change it too much Ray, this board is as sweet as it's name.

Hope your knee is healing up Jono, been out of action myself for almost three months and I hopefully will be back in the water next week. Just missed an epic swell and cranking southerlies....days I dream about. :(
Tommy speak to sugarcube (above) about new board dimensions. Im on the 5*10 and absolutely love it. Good all round boards abd are super strong decks.
dafish what happened mate? Im 4 months post op and hopefully be in the water in 4 more months!! Painful mate! Glad to hear your shredding still (was haha) on the board and when ya make it over this side of the well ill have a few down winders for you to hit up!!
Hey Jonno, look at my thread from last week about degloving my finger. Few pics of the carnage. I was very lucky to save it. Four operations, (the first one was 7 hours) and two sets of skin grafts. Was at my fav spot which is pretty isolated, so it was one of those "could have gone either way" moments.
I will be over seas for 9 months traveling after our kite season here ends, but when I get back I am hitting up the west coast! I will be be tracking you guys down!

The firewire vanguard is a super board.
I ride mine in my normal surfing volume and can guarantee you there is no easier way to shoot up wind
It's a flowing board on the wave, with plenty hold for hacks
It makes me happy
I like my smook for waves and axis new wave for blasting and learning tricks.
The new wave is out in a 5'4" so it is smaller lighter with no rib in the middle.I think its one of the best training tools out there.
My smook 5"3" by 18" is being made at the moment using a new glass.Should be sick.I still have my 4' my 4'5" and my 4"4" and they still are good even after 2 years.(just a little small now i am 73 kg and 5'9")
My uncle david rides a smook 5'5" and loves it
Dad rides a new wave 5'8" and hes really progressing on it. So easy to learn on.
My uncle Jus rides a stone from WA and it is a sick board too.
Jeff from smook is always looking at new construction methods to keep the weight down but maintain flex and strength. All my boards from him have lasted really well and i give them a flogging on a regular basis .
Another option, local and custom built. This is Monty's new strapless model from Delta Designs. It is 6'-3" x 18 1/2" x 2 5/16" volume 27 litres.

DELTA designs, this is my go to board, 5'9x18x2 nice and simple, swallow tail i can use this in any conditions solid to fun and mushy, up north and back home down south!! Marty keeps all your details on file so, you can basically getta stamp out of your previous board plus or minus a few tweaks..
Not trolling... Just sharing the stoke....
If you want a different strapless board, build an alaia...
And not one from some exotic paulownia wood or anything like that...
Go to bunnings, buy a $25 piece of laminate pine, shape it up with some rails, a concave and a round nose....
Put some wax on it and ride it....
It's friggin awesome... I promise!
I haven't been on my twin tip for the last 6 sessions cause this board is so much fun!
And I have a Pawlonia blank in the garage ready to go, but am starting to think I don't need it...

Another thumbs up for the Delta, great board.
Just wish I was able to get mine out at the mo.
I shaped myself one a year and a half ago, and yes, they are mega fun. However, when the surf is even half way decent, I would go to surfboard any day. Horses for courses. Paulownia is a great wood because it won't hold water. You can shape it and oil it up and ride. No need for glass if the blank is thick enough.

Sadly the Shinn Wave was retired 6 months ago. I've been riding an Axis Twin Wave (148) which I'm very happy with. The Shinnster should be something different again.
