Yes it's the same old question, I'm off to Bali and need a low wind kite, largest I have is a 12 rally, so this is the question - what's the best low wind but fast moving kite in the last 2 years , thinking of a 14 m ozone light or something of that nature , I ride slingshots but also like ozone and decent built kites with light bar pressure, I have a very bad elbow so can't take bar pressure ,
Steve from kite power you must have an opinion on this I weigh 87 kg and will be on an underground 5'8. Surf board when in Bali .
Thanks in advance
Mitch
I'm riding the 2011 edge 13 in wind starting around 13/14 knots and finding this kite hauls my 100kg fat ass around no probs at all. For me it has a top end in high 20s for comfortable riding . But I love overpowered riding so for your weight I would say it would be early to mid 20s.these new edges are terrific boosting and upwind riding weapons.I've waited two years to get this baby. I'm the sum 2868 steve refers to in the review ow 2011 edge in review section of forum . I do receive price support to ride ozone but I can tell you straight up...if they were crap kites , price support would no get me on them.
I haven't had a go on the 15m Edge yet but have watched steve from KP haul his butt around the Bay in ridiculously low wind.but then again compared to me he is a little fella.
If you PM me with a phone number I am happy to ring you for a more detailed appraisal of the Edge.
Cheers col
Thanks I was thinking more of the light, the edge is a racing kite , not so fast turning for waves etc from what I have read, as I'm only going for a week and won't be riding the kite again as I don't really kite in oz below 16 knots I want to buy a second hand kite.
, so I'm looking at the 2009. 2010 range, I did have a 14 rpm but that had the grunt of the 12 rally, maybe I need a 14 rally but they are new out and not exactly cheap, also larger kites are harder to on sell you have finished with them , I know , I've lost too much on kites over the years. , my number is 0410599527 , happy to chat any time , might give steve a call he has ridden every kite known to man . Cheers
steve
thanks i'll catch up when you return for a chat , ive seen the c4 in action in south africa a few weeks ago , 7am in the morning , nice 15 knots , most stable looking kite on the market but never flown one .
in regards to the delta you must mean the badit 3/4 ?CJ, ive heard they are very fast moving but never seen a bandit above 12m before
cheers for the help
MC,
Depends a lot on when you go and whether you plan kiting the east or west coast, if your going July/August (best time for wind) and thinking Bali westcoast, a grunty 12 and 5'8" board should be fine, eastcoast add a 14+ as a backup.
Ive dicked around with kites and boards the last two years (july/august) over there, Im 82kg, this year its westcoast with my 12 and 6' board.
If it looks/feels 15 knots over there on the beach, it has the power of about 12 knots here at home, thats about 20% less power, a wind guru might be able to explain why but thats the reality.
Wind, waves, bintang and nasty gorengs, enjoy ![]()
thanks for the help, east coast sunar, staying at the macure, any tips?, thats why i need the 14m, hope to get to the west a few times but as im with my family it was best to stay on a kite beach and travel as a second option rather than stay west and travel to the wind every day , from what i understand the best wind on the west is at remote spots , the local guys have been great helping me out with all sorts . we are going on the 12th august so hopefully we will get wind,
cheers for the help
MC,
Sanur tips:
1. take a big kite (refer my avatar FBK), 12 will be ok some days but have a 15-17 backup, not everyones cup of tea but why waste the opportunity to kite in the tropics
2. flatwater on the lagoon but just kite out to reef (pretty shallow) for small but fun waves
3. keep an eye out for and show some respect to the balinese fishermen and their floats, they hit the lagoon as the tide drops, walking out into the lagoon to fish
4. watch out for the euro kiters cause they cant see anyone else, some sort of tropical sun blindness and spatial awareness disability I believe
5. make yourself aware of the tides as the lagoon can get very very very low
6. be friendly with the local balinese kiters and they will return the favor, you'll see three distinct kite schools in the southern end all a short stroll from the mercure
7. mercure's a great holiday choice its a little slice of europe in bali, you'll figure that out later
8. all the warungs/eateries on the beach along that stretch are great to eat at, head down at night and dine on the sand, food is just as good as jimbaran bay.
Seminyak & Canggu on westcoast arent that remote but other spots may be.
Might not be epic location but you'll definately have a great time.
I've never heard of a 10 in 12 knots pulling like a 15, this I must see, and I have tried many kites , re the tips much appreciated , a few hours kiting , drinking , family time , what could be better,
Thanks again
