Hi guys,
Family holiday is on the cards for September. The wife is keen for fiji, how is the wind in September. Are there any better locations at this time of year that are not too far away. I also have 2 young kids so kid friendly is a must also.
Thanks Guys
Dave
Check with Qantas and Virgin for upcoming deals to Exmouth from Sydney and Melbourne. Then maybe hire a car and camper trailer or campervan. Great time of year around here for kiting but you wan't to be able to stay over in the Cape Range National park to get the most. I am still not sure was prices will be like for flights though.
Guys,
Thanks Exmouth sounds awesome but with both kids under 3 and the wife is not keen on the campervan thing with both the kids. We have done it before kiteboarding from Perth south, best trip I have ever done, surfed every morning and kited all arvo.
The love of my life is looking at more of a package deal, which is understandable, I suppose, with this in mind I think Fiji is looking favourite. However, looking into PNG, new caledonia and venuatu?
I was keen for the COCOs but from the East coast it is extortionate.
Thanks for all your help. If Fiji is the go where is the best spot?
I would be keen for mainly flat water as i'm only going to take my twin tip. Purely for ease of travelling.
Cheers
Dave

)please let Andrew know we sent you (if you decide to go there )

But the wife has organised a family holiday in Sept with a few friends, in total there are 4 families (8 adults, 8 kids). Its pretty much been the women doing all the planning, and us guys were just going with the flow. Anyway, the have done quite well....
A week snow skiing in Cardrona NZ, followed by a week in Fiji. Were going to the Mamanuca Islands, Malolo specifically, and I havent really done the research yet regarding kiting options and likely weather conditions. But can anyone advise whether the trade winds still be around late September?
Hoping to take my kiting gear, both to give snow kiting a crack at Cardrona, and then of course many awesome sessions in Fiji ![]()
Any info on Malolo for this time of year would be much appreciated.
Mate where you are going is supposed to be sensational for kiteboarding and the trde winds I have been told blow until October so fingers crossed.
I am looking at going to the outrigger on the Coral Coast fiji. I have been told that the kitesurfing is pretty good down there too. Anybody been there? I was looking at the mamanuca islands also but the places we liked did not allow kids under 10, bummer.
Cheers ![]()

Just got some more details from the missus, she has booked us in for 7 nights at the Malolo Island Resort, after a couple of nights on the mainland. In our group of 4 families, all of the 8 kids are between 3 and 7 years old, and the resort has a pretty good kids club apparently. So not sure which resorts you looked at?
I dont think this resort see's a lot of kiting crew, I believe the Funk Fish further south and the resorts on Malolo Lailai are where most kiters head to?....i could be wrong, dont know, never been there, just what I have established from searching the net to date. But this is appealing to me, as I would rather be away from the crowds, and I hear it gets quite busy down Malolo Lailai.
www.google.com.au:443/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode&q=Namotu+Island+Fiji&ie=UTF8&hq&hnear=Namotu+Island&ll=-17.753428,177.17308&spn=0.064414,0.131922&t=h&z=14
Done a little bit of research so far, the resort is on the NW side of the bigger island, should be away from the majority of the kiting crowd down at Malolo Lailai (Plantation & Musket Cove) area. If not suitable to kite directly in front of the resort, then cheap island drop off's / boat taxi's available from the resort. Options then are down around the Funky Fish Resort, Walu Beach, Qalito Island etc.
Possibilities of downwinders from Funk Fish or Plantation Resorts...maybe?
This is all very preliminary, but looks promising to me ![]()
Just hope the trade winds play the game ![]()
Hey Hopey, Boyler, I'd be keen to here about your kiting experience there as we are planning a wedding over there at the moment but looking at the Shangri-La on the Coral Coast. We are going in July / August next year.
I managed to convice the girl to allow me to take the gear on our honeymoon but will only be able to kite where ever we choose to stay.
I'm hoping though to jump across to Aitutaki in the Cook Islands.
If you're into waves, September is a good time of year to be a kitesurfer in Indo!
Cheep & family friendly too.
Very interested, Can you tell me more about:
Places to go?,
Accommodation Standard, (Basic to Resort is Good)
Size Kites, (85 kg intermediate kiter) 2011 Rebels?
Waves?
Costs? (Cheap or reasonable is good)
Airlines? Bus? Jeepne?
or any pieces of useful information.
.
i went to aitutaki last year. sounds like what your after.......flat water...stunning place....great for kids (mine are 5)
Did the Fiji family holiday thingy last year, 28 Sept - 7 Oct, 15 - 20 knots. Stayed at both the Warick & Naviti Resorts (family friendly). As wdric said, high tide!
