G'day Muddies,
I'm from lake Mac but I have family in old bar. This is my first season kite boarding and I understand there is some great spots up there to ride (surf & flatwater). What are the best conditions to pack the kit up and head on up for the weekend?

The estuary is becoming shallower and shallower, and won't get deeper again until the next big flood. You need to be there close to high tide to make it work.

Watch out for the local wildlife and keep away from any birds that are nesting or standing around on the islands - it's a unique breeding ground and they were there first.

If you head to the actual river mouth be careful of the current, especially on an outgoing tide.

Muddies works best in a Nor easter but Sou easters can be OK. Southerlies are kitable but can be gusty and probably a bit sketchy until you're more experienced.

If you're launching from the grassy patch near the road be sure to get as far away as you can from the trees as soon as possible - don't stand around with your kite at 12.

When it's on, it's an awesome spot, but if the tide is too low just head to one of the beaches, depending on swell and your skill level. Enjoy!
