I have a FO minx harness that i have managed to bend the hook up slightly on... enough so that occasionally it unhooks on me...

I have tried putting it in the vice and hitting it gently with the hammer with no real luck, so i thought id ask if anyone has any experience or ideas with this... just incase i manage to damage it somehow...

cheers

Take it back to where you bought it from, that shouldnt happen at all - its a Safety fault that could land you in deep ***t if it unhooks in a launch area...

They should be able to get a replacement bar for you or a stronger model one to keep us all safe

If your still living in the land of "Far Far Away" I mean Albany put a picture of the bar up - someone may have one laying about ??

Or temporarily:
On the Donkey Bit - just bang a bit of wood dowel or any hard tubing up to where it sits (pulled vertically) against the hook. Only use a short piece so either side has flex to get in and out of the hook easy...

Hope this helps :)

My mystic Warrior hook was very shallow and could unhook easily. I tried tapping gently with a hammer. It barely shifted so I ended up using a lump hammer and bashing the living daylights out of the thing. Eventually it bent to a better shape and I have no concerns as to the strength of it. If you have no luck replacing with the manufacturer don't be scared to give it a solid pounding.

Heh BB, was that a Mystic Warrior 1 Harny you had? As that is what harness I have been using or went back to of late and I had my Chicken Loop and Donkey Dick pull out of the hook about a week ago which led me to doing a bit of unexpected unhooked riding Which I never experienced while using my Dakine Harness.

I must admit I had my harness a bit loose as I was keen on it trying to swivel aound on my hip a bit for better down the line toeside wave riding. After I got back to the beach and re rigged I noticed the whole hook and hook pad was tilted upward pretty serverely. Since then I have done my waist straps and the lower strap up alot tighter and have not experienced the same problem, yet

I have noticed my Dakine Harness's Hook has a bit more bend down in it than my Mystic Harness Hook. The reason I'm asking maybe I need to bend the hook over a bit more on my Mystic Harny, like you did for a bit more reassurance, as unhooked riding on my 12 is a bit of an experience in 25 knot + conditions

Yeah, exactly the same problem I had. If it wasn't for the overall comfort of the warrior 1, I'd switch. You can only bend the hook so much. I regularly have to keep an eye on the loop, it's often halfway off and hanging on by the finger, particularly after a dead man or backroll with a loop. The hook on my wife's dakine boardies is excellent. Bummer is, the hook is well sewn into the spreader bar pad on the mystic so bending is the only option. I keep meaning to take it to a mates place and get it rewelded, problem solved.

Lots of people in sheds hitting kitesurfing harnesses with hammers and wood.

All fixed, managed to place the hook over a peice of timber and wedge it in the vice, placed a adjustable spanner on each end and just bend it back (took a bit of effort) but no smacking with the hammer needed.

not necessary, it would have to have been bent a heck of a lot more than what i have done to make the joints soft, i can see where your coming from though.

two of my mates apparantly did the same with their FO harnesses ages ago with no troubles.

Thanks anyway :)
