I want to buy some gear for a begginer, hopefully second hand but not too old, only a season or two. I have had a good lesson already and i weigh 75kg. The place i want to learn at has winds between 10 - 25 knots on average at a guess and after watching the weather reports. Any suggestions on board and kite brands and sizes???
It's always hard knowing what buy first up. Contact one of the bigger kite stores preferably in your local area or ask your instructor. What kite and board did you learn on? Most shops have a range of second hand gear on consignment and can advice you on what is appropriate for your stage of kiting. Make sure it's not more than 2 years old. Also speak to more experienced kiters, preferably ones who have been kiting a few years and have had a number of kites.
There's a big second hand section on this web site.
Most people have specific kites and brands they love and everything else is rubbish to them. It becomes a personal preference. You don't as yet have that luxury.
Ask about safety, ease of water relaunch, depower, user friendlyness, is it suitable for a beginner, build quality, that sort of thing. Many kites on the market today are pitched at the beginner market.
If your not comfortable with a big kite it will help enormously learing how to fly a small trainer first before picking up something that can potentially cause you serious harm.
Hope this helps
Hi AshleyB
I'm new the sport and I ride a 9m Slingshot Turbo 3 with a Nobile 134 T5, great combo and works for me in upto 25+ Knots I got out that day as it was way too strong. I'm also 76kgs and kite when I can.
Cheers
