Hi Guys
Another 'newbie' seeking help with choosing their first kite
I've settled on a 2010 Cabrinha but not sure on Switchblade or Crossbow
AND what size (10-12-14??)
I'm just starting out (beginner) and 95kgs, riding around Brisbane, Sunshine and Gold Coast
I'm getting different feedback from from shops and local guys I've spoken to - partly because not too many guys have had a chance to try 2010 Cab's yet
Any advice appreciated ![]()
i'd try and see if there are any 09 switchy's left that shops are flogging off because the 2010 models have just arrived. i saved $700 on a brand new 09 switchy a few days ago. at 95kg you could handle a 14, but i think a 12 would be ideal.
You could go for a 14 SB5 or a 13M CB5, then get a smaller kite later on when you realise hat you will need more than one kite to satisfy the addiction!
Otherwise get a 12M SB5, the CB5 13M is more of a race kite, its not as oriented to general performance, does not turn as tight as the SB5. I have ridden both.
Its also true that there are some very good deals going on SB4 kites, and we have 14M/12M and 10M new left in stock, contact the guys at KP Brisbane for prices.

Thanks Guys - sounds like 12m Switchblade is the go
As a beginner, assuming that 09 will be just fine and I wont appreciate any difference between the 2010
Thanks for the advice ![]()
Got a Switchy and a Crossbow, like em both for different reasons.
Love the boosting power of the Crossbow and the wakestyle stability and lighter bar pressure of the Switchy, however, I reckon for an all-rounder between these two kites, the switchy is the go.
I've got a Switchy and a Xbow IDS. The Xbow pulls like a truck but the Switchy is, for me, the better all-rounder... it's the best kite I've ever owned (and I've had quite a few).![]()

And yes, you will need more than 1 kite to satisfy your addiction.[}:)][}:)]
I'd go with the Switchy, but I'm biased as the 12m SB2 was the first bow kite I bought as a learner and now many years (and 1 or 2 repairs) later I'm still using it and having a great time. As far as the size kite, I'm a similar weight and I'd say a 12m should do you fine most of the time around Brisbane.
And don't go for the cheap 2009 (coz I want one left for me when I upgrade in a month or so!)
I have tested the new 2010 Convert (cabrinha) Its a great kite and designed for someone buying their first kite, Very easy relaunch, truckes up wind and forgiving to fly.I would demo 1 before you part with cash.hope this helps Rod.
ps and they are cheaper.
