Any reason why right part of control bar is black and left coloured?
I always thought it would be more intuitive to have the right part coloured as it is the dominant hand for most people.
Port is your left side in nautical terms and a red light is used to indicate it. Good logic if you ask me!

Colour depends on company. Some use yellow, blue and green. Cabrinha bars used to be yellow, some are orange.
I'm just more inclined to grab a colour with my right hand instead of black. I have to keep telling myself that black is right.

what if your riding / facing backwards ?![]()
Heater - what brand of kite are you flying?
Left hand side of the bar should be red (port) and the right side green (starboard) - many bars have random colours !! So the colour of your forward hand will quickly tell you what tack you are on - Starboard has right of way in sailing/ kiting
People say you don't need to know - but when it all come unstuck is nice to have a quick visual reference to see which side of the bar you should grab!!
I have F-one bars that are all white - pretty hey !! but I have added red electrical tape to the LHS and green to the RHS - anal I know but it works for me !!
Easier to remember if you've gone to the trouble of getting a boat license that you've never used.. Oh well. Anyway, you might find that there's a red line or cross on the wrong way side of your bar, this is the easy way to know it's the wrong way around. Some only have a little symbol on the correct way so that's not as easy to see when your being dragged though the water face first! Then again, neither is red on the left!
To answer the OP: to make it easy to spot which way around the bar is, when you're scrabbling for it.
Red, yellow, pink, doesn't matter what color it is because you're not a boat and you're not advertising your position and heading to other vessels.
Best color coded bar I've used is the Flysurfer Infinity 1. Red on the left, black on the right - fine; but the rather than little letters saying "wrong way" on the back, there's a bar-wide white stripe. High contrast, easy to spot and react to.

I know what the colours are for, just dont like the choice of colours.
For example after a wipeout I normally use my right hand to grab the bar which is part way underwater. The black on the right is hard to see under water. Most brands use black on the right with the exception of Naish who use yellow on the right. Makes more sense, instead of having to look for your bar, boom just grab the yellow.
The white stripe sounds like a good idea.

This might be too easy....but why not rig your steerlines backwards?
makes sense in your case ... ![]()
