Going to Bali in June, mainly to surf Kuta side . Would Sanur side have good kite conditions and beaches ???? To save me taking so much gear can I hire some there if there's no swell at Ullu's ????

Went in August last year mainly to surf but got good conditions for kiting at Sanur for about 10 days. I took a rocket fish and kited some OK waves but, as I said, I was there mainly to surf.
I am planning to go to Sumbawa in September this year so I can get better condition to kite in the waves.

Just got back from Bali (Sanur).
June / July is the best time for wind.
Sanur is the best side of the Island for wind and swell.
Their kite beach is a bit tight when theres a few out. Head about 2 k's north near Guria Santerian / Hyatt resorts, heaps better.Not a bad left and right hander there.
Jankie at Bali kitesurfing hires kiting gear as well as SUP at reasonable rates.
The local crew are great.

I just got back and scored some really good sessions at Cunguu on the Kuta side in cross off shore waves, long left handers. I met a local who was my taxi and kite bitch rolled into one and for all day and driving me everywhere, even to dinner or the movies I paid him $30 a day. After a week he was laying out my lines, catching and launching my kite, keeping an eye on me if I got into trouble and then brushing the sand off and detangling bird nests. Good Value. tmiddled, I only had an 11m and a surfboard with me and I got about 2-3 sessions a week. The wind would turn on about 1.30pm and last till around 4.00. If I would have had a 15m I could have ridden nearly every day I was there and I had to watch a couple of French guys doing just that. Maybe I was lucky but the windy season is only 2 mths away. Enjoy it. I also saw some footage of a place called Bali Na, further around the coast from Cunguu and the surfers were complaining about the wind but to me it looked beautiful and the waves looked better than where I had been.
am here now, wind is cranking most days, stronger in some places more than others, and there are wind shadows close to the beach in many places but once out into open water, there seems like plenty wind, today down seminak way, out front of bungee jump was cross/cross-off with two guys out... bring your big kites..... and its def worth looking up strappeds' mate jack, save all the hassle, and thirty bucks a day for your own driver and kite bitch, i've never seen anyone attack a bird's nest or pack up a kite so quick.. the guy's an ace...xxx
oh and keramas, about an hour up the road from sanur, cross on and plenty plenty of room... and there are a few other spots, but i'm keeping them to myself, can see there being more kiters here every year..

Hey strapped dontt you mean Balian - its 2 hours from Kuta on the west coast
Thats is where we are running the ben wilson wave camp in july

On the western side of the island (Legian Canggu Balian) the cross shore is more consistent in the later part of the winter kiting season.
taxi, maybe there from late july 28th for 25 days staying kuta side should be good again have been getting good reports .

yep ,they said it was 2.3 m tiger shark but surfing again no problems ,surfed it the day after with one of my other sons it was pumping and it was at cresent heads not lennox heads.
I seem to look around a little more when surfing & kiting.
stuey martin & his tow partner nearly got hit by 4m white at cathrine hill bay beach yesterday everywhere seems really active the last few years.

June 21~22 there will be the annual "HotAir 2008" kite-comp at Sanur ... should be a good one !

Beware all potential travellers, especially to Kuta
I was in bali last week for a surf trip, been surf training for weeks and even gave up drinking during the week, (i know WTF).
5 days after we arrived we arrived we decided to try and stay sober enough to go for a surf!
Bali has and awesome night life, for some reason the urge to try and drink 24 hours a day with your mates can be overwhelming, could be the cheap watered down piss dunno?
I know the next time i go to Bali i'll either stay in Kuta or stay far out of kuta, and not try to surf and party at the same time.
My 2 cents.

I went to sanur today nice little spot to kite just got to dodge fisherman standing in the water.
Todays was blowing about 15 kn.

will be trying Changu 12,14
then we are based at Balian for 1 week for the wave camp
then back in kuta for a week
we plan to post daily reports and pics and hopefully clips ( if the techonology allows)so keep and eye out for them
