G'day, Lately iv been trying my hardest to stick a simple back roll, but so far have only ended in a rather humerous spin on my ass.
Can some one give me a run down on how to pull this off?.
so far im holding my kite at 11 going at a reasonable speed then just edging hard into the rotation. I dont seem to be able to leave the water, i just spin out. I am sheeting the kite as well as i edge hard.

If your not getn any air then maybe your not holding the edge long enough man, like edging hard is good, but maybe your not holding the edge til the liftoff? I dunno... that was just the mistake I always made.
ALSO be agressive as you can with the kite, fling it up as hard as you can, and only make the pop when it actually begins to pull you upwards, I used to do it b4 the pull started and would end up on my arse ![]()
This is why I'm learning to do some consistant jumps before learning backrolls... about half way there at the mo
.
By the way I managed to untangle my lines from botany the other day... biggest rats nest dude
.
Longy tomoz... I hope, I hate being sick ![]()
Its probably easier to learn if you send the kite a little bit. Once you have that sorted try without doing it.
Make sure you look over you shoulder once rotating. It kinda sets up your whole body in the right position. Like surfing, look where you want to go.
jimmyz u dnt send ur kite for a backroll ur ment to pop using the kite u dnt send ur kite!![]()

Oh ok, that must have been my interpretation of how it's done lol

Maybe like... just for a quick moment then? Like up and then back, just to assist with the initial pop.
remember too, where your head goes your body will follow. thats the best tip i ever got.
goes for all moves. and done right you shouldn't need to move the kite at all. but when learning it can help to have the kite higher.
line up a wave [doesnt have to be big, around 1m nice rounded swell is perfect] and scoot your board up the wave in front of you, your rotation will be best if you throw your head and then your hips into the rotation making sure to look over your shoulder. feel the board spinning around and up to the sky and thn tuck in a bit to speed up through the apex of the rotation and then lay out for your landing. just practice it enough and around 30 attempts later if you havent got it maybe get some help from someone on the beach otherwise keep with the persistence.
My biggest problem seems to be that i dont "pop" off the water.
Can someone explain how to 'pop'?. i see people do it to switch stance ets but i cant seem to leave the water without sending the kite.
does it also help to head a bit downwind first so that the upwind carv is more agressive and has more speed?.
hey lex
yeah thats wat you need to do,get up to speed then head down wind a little then carve up hard, just as you are about to pop pull the bar in hard to max the power...
i have not been kiteing long(just this season) and thats how i pop,i may have the tech a bit wrong but i def dont have a prob getting of the water(most the time i over rotate for a second back roll lol)....![]()

where do you kite???
Graceful has got it... Keep your kite at 11, hands in the centre of the bar, make sure you are cruising without being overpowered, then aim downwind for a good metre or two, then edge as hard as you can upwind.
As you edge hard and just before you "pop" off the water, look over your back shoulder and everything will fall into place. Visualise everything from the moment you head downwind to the edging and pop as one fluid movement, and you'll be doing them in about 10 goes....
Don't bother trying to send the kite until you got the whole pop rotation thing going on though, it's just another thing to worry about.
does "pop" mean to wait till the board releases or do a kind of slam the back down motion much like an olli?
pop u build up tension by suddenly edging hard upwind, you feel tension building and then release that tension you will pop.. practice this a bit.. come in with reasonable speed, keep kite steady, bear off down wind a little to pick up speed, then edge up hard suddenly and release that edge as soon as you feel the power.
as for back roll.. make sure u pop properly before throwing the back roll instead of throwing it as soon as you leave the water
