Does anyone know where I can buy the plastic sheath that protects the front lines - it goes from the hook all the way through the bar to the cleat.

It's about 60cm long.

Thanks in advance :)

Sorry, no idea where you'd get that. But a lot of bars don't have any plastic sheathing on the Dyneema trimline; you could just strip it off and use the bar without it. At least you wouldn't have those broken edges chafing the Dyneema and catching on the bar while sheeting in /out.

Hi ac17,

We are the Airush importer for Australia. We unfortunately cannot source these spare parts anymore and we've been sold out of those many years ago. Your safety line also looks quite worn out and would need to be replaced.
Your bar is approximately 12 years old and looks very worn out. At some point you'll need to consider replacing it. The new safety systems are much safer and the components are more hard wearing. Also the quality of the lines have greatly improved over the years.

We have a couple of options for new bars on our website here: www.kitebud.com.au/product-category/kitesurfing-shop/control-bars/ If you don't have the budget for a new bar, I have 2x used bars for sale, just send me a PM if you're interested.

Sorry we can't get you spares for this bar.

Solution found:
PU Pneumatic Hose is what other kiters have found works - it's inexpensive, doesn't stick, and available in a variety of internal and external diameters. If I can pull apart and reassemble, I'll do this. Else I'll just peel it off and expose the depower lines (will wear faster but wear will be visible).

The bar actually hasn't had much use - it was taken out of its new packet only recently.

It has been a spare - mainly used in light wind on flat water jibing a surfboard.

I've owned 6 airush kites and 4 bars and they ALL had red parts that faded or had parts that cracked up over time. The red colour on the lines always fades fast (across every brand of kite I've owned), and the grip on this particular bar had to be replaced after 1-2 sessions.

Not an attack on any particular brand - I have top end snowboard boots that had only been ridden once where the soles fell off while in storage too. And many kites have valves and strut connectiors that need replacing over time due to glues failing (irrespective of use or not).

This bar is just a spare - I have a new primary bar/kite now.

The materials used for bars have evolved a lot in the last 12 years. The PU they used back then didn't last (even if the bars were completely unused) and was changed around 2017-2018 to something much more durable and flexible. Same goes for kites made prior to 2017-2018, materials used to make valves and the technique used to assemble them to bladders (Thermo-Welding vs gluing) have completely changed.

I can assure you those issues wouldn't happen with a more modern bar and more modern kites.

It's hard to believe your bar hasn't had much use with the tape on the grip. There is also complete discoloration and visible wear of your safety line (should be bright red if new). I also see lots of scuff marks on the top of your swivel which happens over frequent usage / lots of sheeting the bar all the way in.

A few days ago I was sent a list of all the spares at the factory and, to my surprise, a few spares for the older bars (2017-2019) are listed, most of which would be backward compatible with 2012-2016 bars (I think your bar is 2015). I'll try to get hold of those spares and will list them on the website when they arrive (about 2 months from now).

thanks
