Hi.
My Missus is really keen to get into tandem Kiting. I've bought the board and was going to hook her up to my harness with the webbing, until I saw thishttp://www.axiskiteboarding.com/product/axis-kiteboarding-harness-shackles/#.VdvOiiuUdu4
However, I can only find one supplier (in america) who supplies it and the postage they are asking is $142.
Does anyone know where I can get this in OZ, or at a reasonable postage rate???
Cheers
Try your local boating/ marine store .
Maxis marine in Geraldton have a very similar quick release in store.
I have used them on my chicken loop in big waves to prevent accidental unhooking.
The brand name is Ronstan
.
Do they need the swivel? There are plenty of products available with web opening and no swivel. End of the day - Axis won't be making these, just need to find who is...
Snap shackle I think, same as was used to modify old old bars.... to have a quick release. Some were bad
for no release system on the bar.
Sninnaker fitting it is!
Wicthard release! The Ronstan one above will jam under pressure. Also i think your quick release will have a hard time pulling through the eyelet.
yes it depends if you want it for safety and to release under load. Those pins style ones aren't so good at it. The Wichard ones are very good but like any decent piece of chandlery they come at a price.www.briskites.com.au/index.php?l=product_detail&p=335
Thanks for the replies.
My concerns with these devices are that the webbing will need to be folded to pass through.
I appreciate that I'm not an expert here, but wont this add stress to the webbing. long term??
Cheers

Dude
You could perhaps try cutting up an old spreader bar, leave a little bit of the tube attached to the oval part - drill a hole in it - and splice some line (or tie knot) for the connection between the two...
As the others have said - the witchard is the safest.
Be sure to carry a good line cutter - should things go very wrong...
Its the best I could come up with this early in the mornig...
Another vote for the Wichard quick release shackles. Strong and they do release under pressure. Some distort, bend and break under pressure and often don't release or are hard to release under pressure. Big safety issues. I use them for sailing and won't use other brands after problems, but they are pricey.
I'm not sure I agree with the comment about the Ronstan clips not opening under pressure! They are designed to for use with spinnakers and operate under enormous loads!
they sure do, no issues at all releasing my 60m2 asymmetric spinnaker, when the wind gets too strong I let it go with using Ronstan pin type snap shackle at the Tack, its under huge load, boat spead halves when it releases.
I nearly drowned using one of those ronstan piston shackles as a quick release , I can testify they do not realise under the pressure of a out of control looping kite whilst being dragged underwater. I got dragged about 200 m underwater , the kite crashing was the only thing that saved me. Go the wichard ones which don't have a loaded pin. They are about 4 times the price , but what price do you put on your life.
