All the "off the shelf" stuff is made in Asia unless the carboard guys are starting to make one but didn't see any on their site the other day
If you want a custom there's:
-DaLewy (WA ???? - think that's right)
-Dazza (WA - don't ask me one of the boys in the surf forum was touting him)
-Okuma Surf (Wollongong)
-A guy on the Sunshine coast I believe - forgot his name
As well as heaps others that I probably don't know about, and other will probably post.
If you seach the forum there was a topic on Customs in the last little while.
if you're in vic contact the guys at stonker, they will steer you in the right direction. i think they're in torquay these days
okumasurf.com he just made this sick lookin 5'4" epoxy, will custom anything you want and real reasonable on price too
Colin and Dave are both very good . Dave's rails are a little sharper he also tend's to have a slightly more rolled deck . I think Dave is more experienced with tow boards also.
Col can sort you out on grips , covers , leggies , fcs and bits and give you a good price .
Really any board maker can help you , you may want a bit more glass and generally a coupla inches shorter than what they would make a paddle board for you but with the same volume. IMO
thanks for all the input.... great help. Not keen on paying $1000+ for imported probz made in china, non custom board, i think it's bull****......... cheers
if you go for a custom i would go for futures over fcs, the fin boxes are much stronger and handle the extra stress from kiting better
Mark Stone in Geraldton makes great kite-surfboards.
He's been making windsurfing boards forever and started making kiteboards about 5 years ago. I'v got one and it is fantastic. Mine's finished with a rock-maple laminate on the deck and it is indestructable. I've smashed it with waves up to 8ft and hit the reef and hammered it on shorebreak, but it's still in great nic.
Google Stone Surf Designs.
Great Bloke, Great boards.
Dave makes a sick kiteboard, simular to a surfboard but a little narrower and less rocker... he made mine a 6,2 with 2 layers of 6oz glass on top and 1 of 6oz on the bottom.. strong as and it get going upwind easy but when on the wave its nice and loose...
Dave can make you anything you want, i have strap inserts in but i ride strapless, but they are there incase i want to run them.. i can also surf on it easy, so is good for those holidays where you cant take 3 boards and kites..
Also dave and andy has their new showroom which can sort you out with fin upgrades deck grip leggys board covers and will have tow gear and a jetski's soon, cheaper than surf shops can..
these boards are made by lewy himself and not a ghost shaper like the rest of those crap asian boards.. SO SUPPORT LOCAL SHAPERS.. and you get great boards!
I'll make you one no problem...just working on a quad design now, with good feedback...goes great upwind and turns like a dream, any boardmaker can do you one, but it pays to get one from someone that kites themselves, they need to be reinforced, and they don't need the volume of your average board..especialy in the tail.they don't have to be epoxy either, they can be a little on the heavy side, so you can glass them up.
