Hey guys!
I'm looking at trying helmet mounting for my GoPro, my helmet is the Gath Surf Convertible (pictured)
The Gath site sells a DIY kit, looking at the instructions you basically just drill into the top of your helmet, I don't really want to do this. There's the vented mount option, but I'm concerned that the tightened strap on the inside will cause discomfort or for the helmet not to sit properly.
Now if you look at the picture, there's some threads on the side of the helmet, I believe they are for mounting a visor. I'm thinking about trying to fit a mount on the side by drilling into an existing mount, counter sinking a correct sized screw for the threads already on the side of the helmet.
Has anyone tried anything like this?
Does anyone else have this helmet or similar and use a helmet mount?
I'd love to hear your thoughts as I've never done anything like this before, cheers all!
i use heavy black zip ties through the top vent holes, you can cut them off if needs be and they will not break/ i had to heat gun the mount to the curve of the helmet .
should have bought the original gath .
that one the ears fall out if you get nailed by anything decent. pays to wire them in so you do not lose the ears. also has way to much drag in surf and gives me a sore neck after a while. definitely use a loop of old kite line looped through the helmet and the gopro just in case.....
Just use a self adhesive mount. Make sure you teather it to your helmet as a backup.
I was going to try that but had a feeling it would be a waste of time and the salt water would have it off again in no time.

I don't use the ears but thanks for the tip :) Did you actually melt the plastic? And did it hold?
I've found that good old pvc pipe works a treat....
Haha! Cheers for the tips guys!
