Hello,

For my school Project I'm looking for interesting facts about kitesurfing.
What are the most important events and facts in kiteboardhistory ???
I would really appreciate if you would help me to find the milestones events in kitesurf history.
Once I have an interesting number I will create a small post resuming the most outstandingpoints with some pics and videos. I'm sure all kitesurf freaks will love it.
It's really hard to find information in the web even Wikipedia does not really have actual information.

Example events are:
- Bruno Legaignoux and Dominique Legaignoux, patented an inflatable kite design in November 1984,
- 24 Mar 2012 Robert Douglas reached 49.84 knots (92.30 km/h) and gets the world record in speed sailing, competing against windsurf, trimaran and other wind driven vehicles.
- Kirsty Jones set the long distance record for a kitesurfing journey when she travelled 225 km (140 mi). She crossed solo from Lanzarote(Canary Islands) to Tarfaya, Morocco, in about nine hours on 13 May 2006
Facts that I would like to know
- Which is the biggest wave that has been wave kited?
- How many handle passes are the maximum that have been made.
- How many kites are sold in a year

Please always give me the source as I have to mention it in my presentation about kiteboarding. I will also put the results in my kitesurfing blog that I just started.

Thank you so much.
Keep in touch
Best
Vinz

Jason zinetti achieved the lowest ever poo stance at mullaloo on the 21st dec 2011.
Measuring an amazing distance of only 3cms off the water level. Source seabreeze.com. Also check out any of his photos or vids for proof.
He also holds the record for the longest ever poo stance, which miracousley happened that same day, for an astonishing 3 hours!!! I'm sure he will try beat his record again this weekend.
Many have tried and come close, but His secret is 3 meat pies and a liter of coke before each session. Now that's commitment.

Make sure that you look into Robby Naish's involvement and also Manu Bertin ,Laurent Ness,Marcus (Flash) Austin, Elliot Leboe and Adam Koch. They along with Lou Waiman (and others)did alot to popularise the sport. Also a guy that really gave it a shake before LEI's were popular was Cory Roessler and there was a great kiter that did alot to introduce and popularise kiting in NZ and Australia Kane Hartill .Make sure you look into Peter Lynn's work he is an amazing innovator and has an amazing array of kites and gadgets that might not have always hit the big big time they pushed the boundaries and got people thinking outside the square.(He also invented kite buggying which popularised kite traction into a recreational activity)

PS try googling it! Ever heard of Wikipedia? You wont get much worth putting in your assignment from most of the users of this forum! (not because the forum members aren't knowledgeable - most of us prefer to take the piss!) Anyway, how you gonna reference information you got from a forum? Not sure if your marker will look that favourably on a whole bunch of info from a forum.

Your best bet is to do your own research, then ask specific questions of forum folk about personal experiences etc, cos otherwise it ain't worth much in terms of reliable information.

PPS - You forum folk are a great bunch and have helped me heaps with questions I have asked about technical aspects regarding kites and **, so no disrespect

But Vincesurfer I suggest you ask for help in a more passive way. "astonishing facts" is inviting piss taking. Learn and move on mate.....

On my post that may actually be useful I get red thumbs?

Disclosure: High school teacher who has recently failed a few assignments by students who thought finding information solely on forums was considered thorough research! It is not, sorry people. Get your stuff published if you think it is so good students should be using your information in their projects!

Try approaching the main manufactures NAISH, Slingshot, North, Ozone (think the main designer has history in paraglider and hang-glider design) - Cabrinha, Wipika etc
Most of these started producing back in the late 90's (there are others).
Realistically the history is measured in years not decades - it is young.

Have fun

Why the red thumbs again?

When my kid gets to highschool I'd be ecstatic if a teacher failed him for basing an essay solely on internet fora "research"

Then again, they are using calculators in year 2 (7 years old) so I don't hold much hope...

It may have kept the rabbits out, but not the moles.

Aboriginals invented the stick 8'000 years ago, so now we can steer the kite.

Wow, those facts about Jason Zinetti are really amazing! Where can I find out more about this talented, young mongaloid? He sounds like a real show stopper! I heard that he also invented a move called the 'Skimming Zinetti', a move where he cartwheels and crashes gracefully accross the water, then asks if you saw his kite loop back roll! may just be a rumor though..
