hello,
try chumpon. very nice wind and place. take the train from bkk. much faster than the bus.nice and quiet place with up to 20 knots wind and long and safe beach.
we stayed near kiteboarding asia and the bungalows are 500 a night with a/c, fridge and thai tv only.....
i went to thailand many times but never thought it could be that windy and nice.
this place works from nov. to jan/feb.

dude, For Thailand, call kiteboardingasia, and ask them where there is wind...usually it is in Hua Hin (mainland 3 hours from Bankok), Phuket, or Ko Samui.
Have fun!

I love travelling in Thailand but I hear kiting there sucks (I was planning a trip there for kiting but after talking to people realised it was a bad idea)and they have to use huge kites for light or no wind.... Vietnaam on the other hand is some what of a kiting mecca with daily 20+ knot wind...I think the place you want to go for kiting there is 'mu nai' or 'moo nei' something that sounds like that....

Been to Thailand, Hua hin in November. Kiting there sucked. All the little 45kg thai guys were on 16m kites. Apparently the wind is a bit better in feb but they get these really nasty jellyfish that have flesh eating stingers. Full length rashie suit is a must if you don't want permanent scarring. On the plus side for two weeks in a nice hotel i paid $325Au.
Also been to Phillipines. Boracay Isalnd. Much nicer place. No anoying vendors hassling you everywhere you go. Accommodation is a little more expensive. The wind is generally non stop 24/7 between 15 and 25 knots. Just have to watch out for the crazy russians. The island is also party mecca. 80c for a bottle of rum, bout the same for beer. $20 will get you and three mates passed out on the beach from drinking the deadly cocktails.
If i had a choice I'd definitely go Boracay again.

Actually you are right and wrong about Thailand sucks for kiting ... it IS inconsistent and generally need big kites ... but, I can tell you one thing, when it blows properly Samui is as good as anywhere in Asia ... at my local kite-beach we have a great Thai restaurant (better food and prices than either Mui Ne or Boracay), Thai massage (again better and cheaper than the other 2 spots), great grass area for rigging gear - easy launch/landing (except when super high tides) , knee deep water, long long reef with a few waves out the back - huge area to kite in (all the way to Lamai when the wind is right direction) generally NOT CROWDED ... but, you've got to be Johnny on the spot (not so good for tourists) ...

Boracay - I'm here now - just counted over 60 kites on the water - AND the Russians ARE coming !!! (120 Russian kiters from kite clubs in Russia on their way - already booked - I know the person organising their trip) ... Fun Board Cup happening early new year with at least 60~70 windsurfers competing .... there must be at least 8~9 kiteschools, so learners everywhere .... BUT it is good here, but we are worried about how crowded it's gunna get ... 80c will get you a small bottle of Tanduay Rum - BIG bottle of 12yo only $4 !!!

I'm at Mui ne, Vietnam right now. I'm staying about 3 months just to windsurf my brains out or kill my liver, whichever happens first. It's windy pretty much every day, about 20kts, sideshore. I'd prefer to be in Thailand for the food and general scenery, but this place is pretty happening windwise. I just missed a few 35kt days, apparently.

Actually I totally agree, but I was just too hardcore to say so! 20 knots is much better!
