Hello, planning trip to sri lanka jan and feb i have been reading surf not so good in arugam bay in January due to wind , has anyone been kiting this time of year or within proximity . We are in north west first half of jan but as i have family i will need to move around and experience more of sri lanka. Any other kite spots in south that may nlow in early feb would also be nice ?? thanks in advance Scotty
Hello Scotty100, if you are planning to come to Sri Lanka in January, you will find good wind in Kalpitiya. Here we have 2 kitesurfing seasons, from May to October and from December to March. In January you will need a bigger kite than in summer season. The wind is comming on the afternoon, after 12-1pmm 14-18 knots, but some days it can be stronger up to 25 knots...very steady wind and flat water. If you finally come to Sri Lanka, come over to visit me in the Margarita Village, sincerely! Ruben

UPDATE !!!
Kalpitiya was rubbish, what a joke 200 learners in lagoon crashing into each other, but i had fun in the ocean and that was same in Kappalady lagoon was worse gusty and not very windy but ocean was good and still smooth.
Been Arugam bay 3 days and have had 18 -23knots first 2 days and 15-17 knots today perfect for my foil board and 9m and my son rocking it on 12m. Worth carrying our 30kg kitebag around ??
Kalpitiya lagoon is pretty ordinary, just to busy these days. An overnight trip to Vella island up there will be one of the best kiting experiences of your life though.
