I'm with the 'Yeah, no probs' crew; And 'Break it, replace it'...
One question however...
A kite surfing session requires:
Kite
Bar & Lines
Harness
Board
Shorts/Rashie/Wetty
PUMP !!!
It is an INFLATABLE !!! (Unless you're riding foils etc.). It doesn't work by magic !
How do you forget it ? It's only six things !!!
I can't believe a checklist is needed !!!

lololololol

The other day I was waiting for someone to finish kiting so that I could borrow their whole set up, as I was sitting there on the river bank some cyclists came past. They started to try pump up a wheel with one of the pumps left on the grass. I laughed at their attempt and they thought it must belong to me so hurriedly rode off.

a few years back when there weren't so many 'too cool for school ' anal ****ers in the sport and their was some kind of brotherhood amongst kiters

Maayte, back in the day, remember we had to pump our kites up with those tiny blue masturbator pumps. We had to stick together because everyone was either laughing at us or calling the police about "what those strange people are doing behind that tent/beach shelter"

Now people can pump up their kites with one of those large, long pumps, the sould has gone from the sport, ban the big pumps I reckon, force everyone to use those little w@nking ones.

The were also good for water pistols too and doing balloon figures at kids partys.

...... ........ wtf..... it's just a pump. One day you will probably need to use someone elses. The people that wont let you use thier pumps are probably the same people thaat would be scared to take thier skate/snow/kite board on a slider because it woulld scratch it, or take thier car off road because it would get dirty... overused i know but seriously... harden the f up.

p.s. If someone doesn'y like you using thier pump do me a favour, next time you go to the beach forget your pump and steal thiers.

4 years kitting point henry, vic.i leave my stuff all over our rigging spot eg car park.
a kite mag is doing a photo shoot, other kiters from melb come to our happy home.
my prob with one of them is if all the kiters are gone and you find gear then its ok to take it rather then leve it there, may be even try and find its owner is even better.
but when you pack up and ther is still 3 - 4 kiters out kiting and you find someones stuff YOU DONT TAKE IT HOME!!!

have no problems when it is borrowed at the beach but get pissed off when its actually taken home by someone else!!!!!!!!!

I live and kite in the North of Scotland.... we're a tight knit crew of kiters who look out for eachother... borrowing pumps is NEVER a problem... also any 'unknown' kiters turn up at the beach we make sure they are 'Known' before they get on the water (i.e. we make sure they feel welcome and we advise them of the hazards/ best spots etc.)....

On the pump front, a few of us fly PL Arc's.... There's a lot to be said for a self inflating kite!!!

I'm actually cruising Seabreeze because I'm coming over to the land of Oz for a month this Saturday (arrive Melbourne 1st December) and am staying in St Kilda for 5 nights before going touring... I'm taking two LEI kites and a board with me but wasn't planning on taking a pump due to my limited capacity to carry stuff on the airline... I was going to buy a pump on my first day there, should I bother or just chance it at the beach and try and borrow someones???? [}:)]

Anyone on here likely to be kiting in the Melbourne/St Kilda/Altona area early next week that would want to get a session or two in?

Hey mate, don't worry about bringing a pump, St Kilda on a good day is always busy and you will find one. People are cool as long as you ask first and then put it back. As soon as they hear your Scottish accent they will understand! ...Or maybe not

If you go driving up the coast to quiet beaches then you are going to need one for self-sufficiency sake, but St Kilda is probably the busiest kite-beach in Australia.

Take no heed from the complainers here... Kiting down under is just as friendly as in the UK! As long as you rock up and ask a few questions of the locals to work out what's what you aren't going to have problems.

Cool cheers!!! I leave tomorrow..... 24hrs traveling.... I guess it'll be well worth it!!

I'm just going to buy a pump anyway but if it's good for a session before I can buy a pump then I'll be asking someone...

The best advice for all is to put a bike lock or chain on your pump (attach to your bag) its very secure this way....

Should you help yourself to what is mine without asking I will in turn grab your board or kite, what ever it is I can get easily and go try big crashy moves/ride over the beach. Fair deal?

Don't touch what is not yours without asking, especially if you don't know who it belongs to. If you don't know the owner, how are you going to replace it when/if you break it?
