You try a new trick, crash your kite and the leading edge deflates like the economy. Your pump is in the car and you can't be bothered going to fetch it.

When can you use somebody else's kite pump?

* when you are more than 50m from yours
* when its next to their bag
* when its in their bag and you have to rummage for it
* when you ask them
* when you promise to refill their scuba tank
* never

I used a random guys pump that was next to his bag and he got all shirty? i mean it was a piece of crap anyway and i took ages to get my leading edge to a decent pressure. was i in the wrong?

Over the years I let anyone use my pumps, why not, be a dude, generous.. but now I've got 6 pumps that are stuffed to some degree and no one gives a ****. I was too generous and now I'm paying for it. I used to hide my pump in the kite bag and I still find it out and used by some unknown person. Having said that, if I see a lone pump and I need to use it, I just go ahead and use it with no regrets, 'cause I reckon I earnt it.

Like geoff said, you f@#k it, you fix it, a bit of respect for others stuff can go a long way.

cheers,

Robert.

How about taking your own pump with you?
I don`t have a problem with people using my pump with out asking, but put it BACK where you found it! A couple of times I`ve found it next to someone elses bag.

WTF - I certainly hope that he was very very random.
It'll be a sad day for kiting if this ever becomes the norm.
Surely its all part of the game. Launch & land, share a pump, retreive a board, save a kite, whatever. Its the sorta sport it is. Isnt it

Best way to do it. Have some common decency and respect for your fellow kiter's gear if you borrow it and there should be no problem.

yeah i see a few crew coming down with out pumps ( forgotten, broke theirs, dont have etc) no biggie its allpart of kiting to be helping out like watching some ones gear if they are out on the water when the summer scumbags are around.

i notice the local new summer imports that are kiting certainly dont share our frendly nature that we have locally.

does not cost anything to smile & be freindly and yeah like everyone said if ya
F%^&K it ya fix it!!,,,, $49 for the genuine article

I have had three pumps taken from the beach at South Cott over last summer so i have decided this year to be "pump free" and try and survive a summer without one. Yes it's a pain in the #$%@ but i can't believe how many low life’s are around that would nick a pump that has very limited use outside the sport. Put your name on your pump in permanent marker and a phone number.

On the flip side when i have left the pump in the dunes overnight after a big session i was pleasantly surprised that it was still there in the morning, maybe people are not that bad after all ?

Should you help yourself to what is mine without asking I will in turn grab your board or kite, what ever it is I can get easily and go try big crashy moves/ride over the beach. Fair deal?

Don't touch what is not yours without asking, especially if you don't know who it belongs to. If you don't know the owner, how are you going to replace it when/if you break it?

Is there anything else in the world worse than busting your pump when the wind is crankin' and you want to get on the water ? What ya gonna do - go to the shop and buy a new one while you miss a session ?

That said I only borrow a pump when I break one or forget mine... and if there is someone to ask I ask...

I always take my own, but then people borrow it and never return it, so I have been stuck without one as a result of this. I always wait for someone to come off the water though and then I'll ask if I could use theirs.
Doesn't bother me when others use my pump, but please return it and don't run off with it!

I can't believe that reaction, if you get shirty about lending your pump you are a F%%^&& D^&* h$%^

I still reckon that there wouldn't be too many idiots like that around as most of the crew is a good bunch

All the stolen pumps are at Will's house.

He is a gay South African haridresser that lives in Scarborough Perth, but i wouldn't put it past him to travel interstate to steal pumps from over east as well.

Hide your pumps.......

You can buy great pumps for 25 bucks from clark rubber... if someone goes off at you for using theres I am sure you will survive, it is no great loss that you haven't made friends with a loser that gets mad for sharing cheap gear anyway. I would laugh at the person getting mad at me for using there pump. Ive lost 5 so far, I found it a great idea to hide them in the dunes along the beach where you do your downwinders, that way you can grab your gear pull out the hidden pump and leave without going back to the car. Also works well for when you have a kite deflate in the middle of a downwinder, as you no longer have to do the walk of shame.

This is a location thing...eg Exmouth, anyone can use my pump any time. Woodies, don't come to Woodies without a pump expecting to use someone else's....yea, you can use it, but not with pleasure....get your own figgen pump and maintain it, just like your other gear. No one likes parasites.

If someone asked to borrow my pump I'd be "no problem, mate" without exception. However, getting in and finding my pump tossed haphazardly in the sand next to my bag, after packing it away carefully with everything else before I went out, pisses me the **** off.

Have a civil tongue in your head and ask, you know? And treat it with a little respect.

I agree, I don't mind lending my pump, sometimes you forget your own, or say when I was in Melbourne at the beginning of the year, I had to catch the tram to the beach, on a couple of occasions, so I left the pump at home, one less thing to carry. But, I never used a pump without asking, and I always put it back in the guys bag!

Most of the kite company pumps are pretty robust, but like most gear, sand seems to be the killer, so I definitely wouldn't be happy if someone borrowed my pump and dumped it in the sand with the intake hole buried!

I think lending gear and helping each other out, keeping an eye out for people in trouble is what makes the sport special. I've even had the guy who runs the kite school at Halying Island here in the UK lend me a bar because one of my lines snapped in a tangle!

Doesn't make sense!! why would it be a location thing...So you've never left your pump behind. Kiting is kiting no matter which location your at, keep things in perspective people, it's only a pump. Kites and boards well that's another issue.

I agree that when you borrow something treat it as you would your own or better. Always put things back where you found it in the same condition. If you break it replace with a new one of the same sort.

Guy's it's not a sport like basketball, you can't just shout out "hey mate just using ya pump if that's OK". I go off across the bay regularly won't see anyone for an hour or so. Just use my pump for those that know me, It's locked in my car when at my local, but all other spots it's in my kite bag on the beach most the time.
