Doing some research - for a family holiday June - August - that includes some surfing and kiting - Bali the winds look like they may be too fickle but would have good waves and is relatively cheap, Fiji was looking good until the country went even more pear shaped than it was so some focus has come back to Vanuatu and Samoa.
Appreciate anyones experiences on these two areas as my final decision point approaches.
Cheers

Check out Kakula island. You can kite surf off the sandbar but better still, stay there. A bit expensive for a family though as its a private island. You cant actually 'land' there unless you stay there. The best kiting is to the NE coast but the accom is pretty crappy. Very few rental houses up there and it takes 2.5 hours over a rough as guts road to get to the NE coast. A friend stayed at the Beachcomber - I think it was called Takara beach. He got some good kiting in. Check out : http://www.kitebeaches.com/kitesurf/loc/efate_island___takara_beach__beachcombers_.html
I havent been there myself but my mate has. I have googled Kakula - some pretty good kite write ups. Good luck.
Samoa has good trades June to Sep - launching at the Yacht Club is the best. Flat water and shallow. can stop have a beer at Sails restaurant then back into the kiting. The yacht Club is in Apia itself, so you are kiting in a lagoon. I have kited there its great (not pretty for family though). Lanamangu(spelling?) onthe SE coast is a beautiful beach and kiteable, but the accom is very rough (lots of beers required). Samoa is probably beter for a 'boys' trip. Careful what you eat too!!
Desperado's....why don't you come to your senses?
You've been out trying to ride ****ty breaks,
for so long now.
