I pity the fool that tries to learn with a 12m ARX, here's an old thread about them:

The worst thing is a newbie who doesn't know better will probably buy this set up and there'll be another storey on the news which will be tragic and yet again give our sport a bad name.

I couldn't tell you how many naive people who've said (when kitesurfing comes up) "too dangerous, heaps of people have been killed doing that".

If I was loaded with cash I'd buy it just to cut it up and get it off the market so some poor sucker doesn't kill themselves!

Yeah I've stopped a few in my time - like the dude with the 12m in gusty frontal 25kts with his mate hot launching him dead downwind. I sprinted a long way to stop that happening. Bar rigged all in reverse. He listened for 10 minutes, waited till I turned my back, launched anyway. Dragged about 100m on his belly on the sand, pulled safety, went home bleeding, never showed again.

More recently the 2 guys way out at low tide with the 18m kite that wouldn't launch. I'm watching thinking something's really wrong there. I wandered over that time, watched them walking on the kite while trying to launch it, only half pumped so it's flopping everywhere and they're walking up and down on it. Get there and they've got a 2 line bar on a 4 line kite, only attached to front pigtails. He's wearing a weight lifting belt with the bar tied to it. Good thing it never launched, tied to a 18m with no release and no steering. That coulda been fun.

I've just started a new topic about crazy stuff inspired by your reply. Hope you don't mind but I copied your stories into it as an intro. That's some crazy stuff you've seen!

The kite bag and add say its an ARx but it does't look like an AR X to me. Hard to tell rolled up but maybe one of the first Fuels. Either way its definitely something a novice would get spanked on

Why is everyone paying out on my kite for sale add?

How about you come have a crack on it and see the level of awesomeness it can provide.

Kite still for sale.. This kite is perfect for a backpacker with little commonsense or coordination. It will fly itself if given a chance.

Main selling points.

No Safety
Must have extreme Manly grip- no ladies soft hands for this kite req
Pulls to the left (on purpose)
Self deflating (usually around 2km off shore)
POWERFULL (did I say powerfull- yep I did)

HOLD ON AND SHRED.. TAKE YOUR KITING TO THE NEXT LEVEL (LAND KITING THROUGH THE DUNES BACKWARDS)

Report it to Gumtree. If enough people send reports, they'll be compelled to take it down.

I'm selling some kite gear on gumtree.
in my advert it clearly says / warns buyers

DO NOT BUY KITES WITHOUT INSPECTION
And
DO NOT BUY KITES THAT ARE PRE 2008.

Thats fair isn't it??

Don't bother sending messages to gumtree, they won't do sh** !! Just keep sending the seller harassing messages, that if he sells the kite to anybody he is liable for manslaughter.

P.s.
Anybody wanna cheap 11m kite. Check out my add on gumtree. Dont have a credit card to pay for ad on seabreeze.

Disclaimer*****
Sorry seabreeze.

Oops, I meant 'story'.
I can't remember but it may have been auto correct that spelt that one for me?

Don't you think it would be great if there was an 'auto attitude detector' as well as just an auto correct Mark? Or perhaps a 'auto detect the guy who trolls around forums looking for spelling mistakes detector'?

Probably best there isn't as I'm sure your phone or computer would blow up in your hands. I'm actually tearing up thinking about a world without you in it Mark. When that fateful day comes that you will leave this earth (and let's hope it's a long way off) I have an idea of what you should have written on your tombstone:

"Who's the world going to revolve around now?"

What a bunch of Pussy's !! What year kites do you think people learnt on before 2008??? It was good enough to learn on 2 line kites at the beginning of our sport, so why not now?? The softcock generation has spoken out...wow.

Have a couple of 2006 fuels I still ride, nothing wrong with them
i tend to think everyone should be made to learn on old c kites
the first time you are launched 30m through the air from a standing start you either know how fun this is gunna be or you give it up
either way who really gives a f*** if some dope ends up on the news - whatever storey
it'd be their own fault for not being careful not the fault of the kite
