Anyone been to aitutaki / raro around this time of year? I'm going on Saturday - know its now the best time of year just wondering what size kites I should take - run a 17/12/9 zephyr/c4 combo
Weigh 90 kilos
Cheers
Craig
FWIW I got this from Mike Lee who does the package trips from when I was going to go over in July:
flying air new Zealand and air raro is 23kg
bring your repair kit for bladder and canopy should be OK
Looking at wind finder for this week his 15-20 knots average looks about right.
Thanks di33ta - I went in August last year and it was big kite weather all week so just wondered if anyone had experience of this time of year in my experience it was a soft 20 knots i.e I'm thinking I coiild leave the 9 at home if necessary...
Its generally past the 'accepted' time to get steady/more reliable wind...
The 'traditional' season runs May through end September/October.
Having said that you can get good wind any time so don't be discouraged from going; just maybe realise its darn hot and humid at this time of the year and the wind isn't bankable in the general sense...at least not in the sense of us being able to offer reliable wind on our tours.
You can see some wind data on our site at www.kiteboardaitutaki.com but unfortunately it only goes up to september we don't have any from Cook Islands Met Service for the 'summer'....
Generally the wind starts to swing around to the N, NE or ever NW and its coming from the hot humid equatorial pacific so lots of lulls and sticky days.
But, hey, you may get lucky and you can still kite in one of the greatest spots you'll find anywhere.
PM me or ask a question if you need more info and have a good time......eat lots of mangoes!
