I was having a late one last night at Brighton after work. A blue North kite arrived from a downwinder about 6.30. Little bloke- dark skinned blue eyed Rasta haircut. Thats Airton isnt it?

It was touching 30 knots sideshore, Waves about head high some a little over just peeling down the bank. . He started blowing the minds of those lucky enought to be there to see it . He was doing 30 foot board offs on his strapless surfboard with his board between his legs. I saw him pull a double back rotation and land it coming in. He did some nice solid lip smacks as well. Lots of good wipe outs too. He wasn't holding back.

That was pretty top class conditions for Scarbs of course.

We had a brief conversation after [his English wasn't great and my Portugese non existent]. He reckoned there was a lot of close outs . I was just glad he got it on a good day but naturally I lied and said "yeah mate, you should see it when its actually breaking and when it really starts blowing!"

I've been lucky enough to join Airton on his entire aus trip.
And to be honest the stuff he was doing last night was as nuts as we and i have seen.
I was totally overpowered on a 8m Rebel, he was on a 6m Neo.
At no moment from cottesloe to scarbs did he slow down or hold back.
However a number of times i had to stop and think, WTF.

The trick your talking about is the "crazy horse".
Another NORTH team rider and good mate of Airton's, Matchu Lopes, invented it, but Airton has been going one better and does them with kiteloops.
Glad you got to see him ride and it helps stoke you for the summer.Yeww

(sorry for the poor quality pic, i shot it on my phone from the screen on my DSLR)

It's far from a new trick anyway... his North team mate didn't invent it, people did it way back when board-offs were popular (10-12 years ago). First guy I remember seeing do it or some variation of it was Kiwi ex-pat Aaron Jarmin, he called it the "Sack Tap" (I'm guessing out of THPS video game haha).

p.s. To be fair Airton f*cking shreds! I think he could be even better on a SUP than he is on a kite... However I'm not going to sit back and listen to people claim how so and so invented or innovated tricks 10 years after they were first done, I don't care who it is.

I'm stoked some people are stoked on having him out here.

Unfortunately the tour is over.

Airton flew back to Europe and i missed my flight and spent 5 hrs in Perth airport.

Hopefully we'll see you all again soon.

Working...

Oh and there is a thing coming up called Christmas.
One would much rather see their family then be stuck with a bunch of dropkicks in WA, such as myself.

He has a job?

Lots of people travel for Christmas, I know a lot of people from Europe who will be in WA at that time... Snow isn't exactly conducive to kiteboarding or surfing .
I can understand why you wouldn't to be stuck in the pond with short tackers though .
