gday im riding the vertigo 5 line hyrbrids and starting to get more into the unhooked side, been dropping the kite on the 5th line and is a real pain in the ass to relaunch every time i resest the kite after it rolls i have at least one outside line through the centres whats the trick
It's just a problem with the whole bow / flat hybrid kite design shape when using 5th lines...
Really if you want to use a 5th line kite with good relaunch it needs to be a c-shape to work properly There is no work around, all flat kites that I have seen do the same thing and have similar problems when on their backs because of 5th line engagement. There is a decent relaunch video on the north website for the rebel that I assume is the method you are using but it is still miles slower than a c-kite 5th liner..... otherwise as the people above said, disconnect your leash from your 5th line and ride without a safety on suicide mode like all the other bow kiters. Or get a c shape 5th line kite if the safety is important to you
yeh i usualy just put my leash on my loop when i unhook only prob is i broke my chicken loop the other day so bit worried bout loosing the kite
Im not familiar with your set up.
Hopefully you have a stopper ball on your 5th line.
This is easy if you have a tiny amount of capacity to learn a new kite skill.
If the kite falls into the U position in light wind.
1) Reach above your depower strap, grab and shorten the 5th line.
The kite will fly up in the sky. Alittle like a box kite and this is a good thing in pounding shore breaks.
2) When it is has a bit of altitude quickly grab a side leader line.
With a big turn the kite will start relaunching or may even just spin around in the air and fly.

Try shortening your 5th line stopper. Most companies have their stopper too far out so that it is fool proof but you have this problem. The problem occurs from not having enough tension on the other lines to keep the kite on the water (all on the 5th line).
If you inflate your kite up, measure the distance from the centre of the leading edge to midway bewtween the wing tips, this distance I have found works well as the stopper length for that kite. Normally around 2.5-3m. This way when you ditch to 5th line it will still fall on its back but the tension in all the lines should keep the kite on the water in the 'U' postion. Try that.
