I know this belongs in the surfing section, but many kiters surf too. This is the most compelling final I have seen ever. So much at stake, quality waves, and drama everywhere. Must see!

Hey Dafish - I missed that heat. The commentators were saying slater had the ****s about something (apart from mick winning). Did he go in thinking that whoever won pipe would win the world title or something along those lines ??

wow, how harsh. Life is too short to buy into the crap. Watch if you want, ignore if you want, enjoy life because your only guarantee is this moment.

Hey Main, Slater did think that the wave that Mick won could have gone either way. It was an amazing come from behind win with only a few seconds left. Could have gone either way. But I have to say, Slater's next heat was sensational. Absolute domination and made everything look soooo easy Had Mick lost on a lower wave score and Slater won the event he would have been WC. He did congratulate Mick and seemed to take is as good as anyone could. Those waves were just insane......

the ending was already over... :( sorry though. Still worth watching every wave. You don't see conditions like that for an event very often. I watched a couple of the heats several times because it is that good. (plus I had the flue and needed something to keep occupied while I rested up)
Pretty much all over the surfing world news. I watched it after I heard the results and just kept watching, which is something I never do nor have time for. 9 hours of superb pipe with the best of the best doesn't come around too often.

Micks last wave, huge fade to set up that pic was epic !!!! 9.7 yep well worthy, although his next heat was a shocker. Slater is still the king, fanning the champ!!!!

It was that epic fade to set up the barrel that won it. Such a smooth and sweet bottom turn. If you looked at the two waves scores, and the waves themselves, you can see that the fade was the difference. The barrel time and depth was about the same.
Three time champ, sets himself in rare company. Deserved champ.
John John Florence will be the king soon enough. His barrel followed by a 360 in the demolition of Fanning was just too much. Also, you might scroll around and see his free surf early in the morning when it was maxed out and they nearly called it off. His aerial at the end that he almost pulled off shows what he is capable of, and such a young dude.

Thanx for posting that link dafish, well worth watching

Its amazing how you get slagged for posting such great surfing in the General section and then instead of explaining why he felt it was wrong of you to post it here the dick deletes his post . You know who you are

Hey TB, glad you enjoyed it. Driving me crazy right now, been sick "as" and it's driving me crazy. I haven't been couch bound in a very very long time. The original wind forecast for this week was not so good, but ramped up nicely. And I am stuck here feeling like crap. This footage eased the pain a little, I have a couple of good books to read, but I am restless and want to get out. I have to give it one more day so hopefully thur or friday I will get out of here! Let me know when you are headed this way so we can go for a session.

Interesting views. I rate a deeper drop over a shoulder drop fade. Would be interesting to hear actual judges opinions on it - they took a while to decide so may not have been very sure about it. The thing is if the barrels were bout the same then if that was the case more riders should be dropping into shoulders and fading back then into barrel if it is higher scoring. Just trying to learn more about judging really not much more - was an awesome show.
