The 37th Merimbula Classic will incorporate the 2017 Kiteboarding Australia Wave Nationals
National kiteboarding title to be awarded at long running wave sailing, kiteboarding and SUP competition
MELBOURNE, June 2017 - Kiteboarding Australia Limited is excited to announce that the 37th Merimbula Classic will incorporate the award of the Kiteboarding Australia Wave National Titles. Held between 23 and 26 November, this social and historic event will be the perfect platform for riders of all types to get out there and enjoy the waves from dawn until dusk.
Kiteboarding Australia has announced its support for the event and with the assistance of event organisers, affiliated state association Kiteboarding New South Wales. Alexandra Lockie, Kiteboarding Australia General Manager said, "Incorporating the 2017 Australian National Kiteboarding event at the 37th Merimbula Classic is a massive step forward in satisfying the kite communities desire to have quality events that combine competition with a fun social setting. We are excited to work with the proven event organisers at the Classic to put on a great show."
The Classic encompasses three water disciplines: Stand Up Paddle surfing, wave sailing and kiteboarding. This year the competition in the kiteboarding will be turned up a notch with an independent judging panel being responsible for awarding the 2017 Kiteboarding Australia Wave National Titles from across the event weekend.
This jam style event will result in the award of National Titles across 5 categories:
? OPEN MENS
? OPEN WOMENS
? JUNIORS (under 18)
? MASTERS (35+)
? GRAND MASTER (45+)
There will also be awards for the
? Ben Wilson Kite Week and Namotu Island award for the BW kiter of the future: the prize is a week on Namotu Island (Fiji) during Ben's Kite Week and is awarded independently by BWSurf and Namotu Island Resort. Valued at over $5000.
? Horizon Big Air Award: this is a separate award for outstanding air during event and goes with a $500 cash prize from Horizon CU.
? Local kite surfer award
