My first North Kite is the 2009 Rebel and I am fairly impressed. It came with a 5th Element 2009 x 20m bar so I bought a 2007 5th element x 25m bar for lighter days which I have only tried once and I think I will need to mess with it to get it to feel like the 2009 bar. I keep hearing the 2008 Rebel and 2009 Evo are better in the waves and I see North already have a 2010 Rebel out so am I missing something and should I be going forward or backward to get a better wave kite?

yeah get the 2010 rebel. north rebels are known for their consistency. at least the last few years they have been consistent with the garantee your kite will fold in half. keep up the good work north!

I've ridden north since 2005 and have not had any dramas with any of the kites.

Out of the Rebels, the 2007 was supposedly the best in the waves - I didn't get to ride them myself (I was on the vegas'). The larger size 2008 Rebels absolutely sucked balls in the waves, smaller ones were pretty good though. 2009 are awesome in the waves albeit I only use a 6m now - which coincidently has a lower end than the 10m 2008...go figure.

The 2009 6m does everything I need it to do so until I try the '10, I don't see any point of upgrading. Up to you ultimately.

2007 Rebels were the best by far, its all gone downhill from there on. Not tried the 2010 yet, not sure they are released yet?

I agree about their consistency, they are still terrible.

Tried hard to spend some time on one but when a Vegas was available why would you bother?

Hi Guys,

Best way to determine if the Rebel 2010 is for you is to drop in and demo one in a few weeks when we start to receive stock.

Cheers,

KH

I agree with the first part of your statement, 2010 Rebels are very cool kites, ive been having a great time on the 12m so far. lots of grunt and a little bit faster than last year, however as AKS said, the best way of finding out what is for you is to demo.
As for the folding issue, It was a recognised problem that occurred when the 2009 (and only 2009) Rebels were either underinflated or pushed very hard through the window by a heavy rider. A FREE line was supplied to rectify this problem if it persisted under proper inflation. If anyone who bought a 2009 Rebel in Australia still does not have this line, please contact a north retailer or Windgenuity to get one.

The 2010 Rebel has 5 struts again, which will stabilise the LE and stop any folding as was experienced in some 2009 kites.

All. Thanks all for the info. My 2009 rebel is a 7 m (no free line) and I simply pump it to 9-1/2 PSI and have never had this folding problem I keep hearing about. I have certainly put it in a position where it probably should have folded a few times. If thats the only issue with it then I will stay with it coz it goes great in waves. I was just wondering if there was something better out there. Some of the boys at Margies are on the 2009 EVO's and rave about them.

my 09 7m was ok, never folded
seems bigger 9m on had problems - mine did

dont care what those with vested interest say the 09's had major problems
seen it several times and experienced them too, magical origami folding and self tying kites, leading edge concertining no matter what pressue you put in, limited depower

08, 07 great kites

'10 - lets see
