Hey all. New here and after some info/advice (be gentle). I tried to get into kite boarding 2 years ago and got me a family instead. Bought a mint co2 10m (was good price on ebay) that had only been used 5 times max and has been in the shed ever since. Pumped it up today and still looks good. My question is, is this type of kite able to be used by a beginner? And is anyone out there willing to give it a go or check it out? Or do I donate it to jj richards?

Not to be an a$$ or anything but I'd suggest you cut it up and make a few shopping bags out of that material. Definitely not a beginner's kite (anymore).

It definitely will still fly. But kiteboarding technology has improved so much in the last few years it's just not worth getting injured due to archaic equipment. Especially if you have a family now you need to take care of! And if you're still thinking of getting into kitesurfing, there's heaps of good and cheap 2nd hand equipment available. Just don't go older than cca.3 years.

^^^^^ totally agree
plenty of cheap kites in good condition available on Seabreeze.
Anything post 2010 and steer clear of dedicated c kites for now (fuel)etc.
read heaps on the newbies forum...

Keep it for retro value but don't use it until you're a solid intermediate, able to comfortably edge to control your kite's power and to do basic unhooked jumps, and you understand the relaunch technique and safety procedure for it.

Until then, as others have said, heaps of beginner-friendly kites for cheap on here that will make your learning curve much faster, safer and more fun.

Had to do a Google search on this kite. Looks like a C kite. C kite+ beginner = a horrible mess. I wouldn't recommend this!!

Thanks guys, much appreciated. Will hang onto for man cave purposes.

Oh also im 193cm tall and weigh 65kg wringing wet. What size kite should I look for in the future. Areas ill be riding will be redland bay area and possibly relocating to hervey bay and bundaberg soon.

Thanks in advance.

If you're going up to Hervey Bay or above I'd go a 10 or even an 11, it's pretty light up there. Get one with good range to keep the costs down.

Hi Bonez,

I agree this is not the kite for learning now we have the luxury of such safe equipment.

In saying that, i don't see the issue learning on a C kite with a good safety system.

Learners are now taught to just let go of the bar when feeling unsafe, this is great for safety however I feel a lot of people don't respect the wind and conditions as much as they used to.

Cheers

That was my first kite
Like the others said get yourself something modern unless you enjoy a very slow learning curve with heaps of time spent on relaunching and trying to hold an edge against an otherwise hardly depowerable monster with very limited wind range.
