I may have found a chink in my much loved 2016 Naish Pivot.
Wind was 25 knots to low 30s but gusty. On my 9m (95kgs). 3 inches of depower. Kite inlated firm.
Pushing the kite hard doing loops and the leading edge was flexing. Twice i did long powered down loops on a transition after a jump and as it came back up the leading edge deformed but then the kite twisted and ended up in a pretzel.
After it happened a second time i took it in and tried to sqeeze some more air in but it was rock solid.
So am i too fat for a 4 line kite in strong wind or is this a not so well know problem of the pivots?
Gross , that sounds nasty
Sounds like a kite design failure to me
Probably has no solution, but I'm guessing you're about to get a lot of "tech advice"
Some poorly designed kites flap like crazy when overpowered during a loop.
What exactly is a PRETZEL?
The wing tip twists over the leading edge and the struts get folded over too which effectively locks the kite in an unnatural position. Kinda looks like a pretzel.
Seems like you are a heavy kiter AND you are putting far too much resistance against your kite during the loops, which is causing your kite to deform so much.
Whenever you do a loop you must try to follow the kite as much as possible (go downwind at speed) and avoid edging your board cross wind, especially during the most powerful phase of the loop. Doing this will make for smooth loops and avoid folding your kite.
