Krui, Sumatra, Indo.
I went there three times about five years ago before I kited and it was always windy in the arvo,. at the time it was a little annoying but no major as you take a 30 minute drive and there is a wave which works on the opposite wind,. Jenny's Left.
The place is reasonable remote so still super cheep, 20 a day for accom and food. I been toying with heading back there just to kite it! One of the longest lefts in Indo sits on your doorstep which is amazing!! Google Paradise surf camp and you will find the location.
I was in Morocco a few years back. Was absolutely epic. Essaouira is a good spot for kiting. You could base yourselves there and do some side trips to Marrakesh and Fez. I was staying in a hotel in Marrakesh sleeping on the rooftop overlooking the main square where they roll out all of the food stalls at night. The best food ever. A local hawking at the hotel drove a group of us travellers across the Atlas Mountains to a last outpost in the Sahara Desert. We rode camels for the day and slept in Berber tents in the desert. We had camel stew for dinner straight out of the broth. The stars were the brightest i've ever seen. It was an amazing adventure. We stopped in some oasis towns on the way and had cups of tea and treats in the locals houses. The Moroccans hospitality was amazing. When you are finished in Morocco you can cross the straight to Spain which is one of my favourite places in the world. Don't get me started hehe.
Awesome you are having a year off
. It will be the best thing you ever do. I did the same myself once upon a time. Happy travels and strong winds!!
.....the Netherlands coast is another awesome spot. Lots of cool crew. Some great beach bars where you can order buckets of ice cold beers to drink on the beach for post kite sessions. I was there with some German friends camping on the coast. The Dutch love their camping and the camp grounds and holiday parks are well set up. We stayed in a holiday park on the coast about 45 mins public transport from Amsterdam. The Saturday night we headed into the city unbeknown to us was the Mardi Gras. Was a crazy crazy night.....a Euro leg on your trip would defo be lots of fun. Not too pricey if you do it right too
we need to chat Pete....back home now, give me a buzz. Stoked you are taking the time off....and congrats on the new hotel ;)
