check this video out, I know it's in french but it gives an idea of the potential to run more "democratic" events
speed-crossing instead of pure upwind-downwind racing
mostly cross and down wind race
4 events run during the year across France and a few very good entrants: Julien Kerneur, Maxime Nocher, Alex Caizergues
but also heaps of young riders, and less "equiped" racers: indeed the race format allows for any rider to ride with any gear (IKA or not IKA registered) and it works = 70 entrants!
I would like to see us do a lot more of this style too. Any chance of a fun flat out race in Sail Townsville? Maggie to Strand - positioned to be cross to cross downwind?
We were supposed to do one on Botany Bay - but they wanted more social style and then cancelled.
yep, agreed on L2L and ocean classic
but, it would be so good to have an Australian Championship with a few 2-3 days events across the country all year round
I'm not even sure there's gonna be any Nationals this year, so I guess we're still far from that...
nationals will be on lake macquarie/ Newcastle! well im happy to help organise it anyways! pretty sure the lake crew can pull it together
the format looks fun would be some good speeds and Great crashes! a few sailing classes have a similar event in the middle of their own nationals, usually called the dash for cash, can be a knock out format winner takes all!
Agreed, it would be great to get some of this type of racing up and going on the East Coast.
Those who enjoy the racing scene will still travel to the West for L2L and Lancelin to compete.
2 Examples of French open format race course 14m & 18km course.
Woodies/Coogee could make for some great courses ![]()
