Just wondering what association we need to be member of??
AKSA? YACHTING AUS? IKO?
anyone know which one will cover the races??
From what I can work out . If you want to race now , join a yacht club , there is a fee built into the annual fee which goes to yachting Australia , this gives you the silver card, Aksa I believe should be trying to get recognition thru yachting Aust which would also be a way of achieving the silver card (aksa would have to add the extra fee onto those wanting to race and be a member of aksa ,as not all aksa members would want to race).
I'm not even sure if the ISAF event in Melbourne at the end of the year has been sorted out yet with what requirements will be required ?Yachting Australia , AKSA , ISAF ,,,not sure what you will require to be eligible ?
The ISAF event aside , with the local club racing the problem is , unless you have an affiliated kite club who is willing to run races , you will end up having to sail with a yacht club , and they will expect you to join their club? Won't really affect me as I'm a member of both , but ATM I'm trying to sort out what options others in our area have.
Anyone got any other info ,or if I'm wrong please correct me , as if trying to organize racing in Brisbane,
Jay.
Hi guys,
Have been in limited contact with yachting Australia,
However what I have learnt is that the silver card does not cover kite boarders as yet.
As far as I am concerned all you need to race is your AKSA membership as it is currently the only insurance offered to kiters, being that ya doesnt cover us.
I am running a Friday night race series at Sandringham yacht club, where sail Melbourne is held. For our racing all we require is AKSA membership and a small fee to cover costs of running races, they can join the yacht club if they want to.
Sail Melbourne, I know that it is an open event, no qualification but the chances are they will want you to have a silver card and AKSA membership. I am meeting with race officials on Friday so I will let you know
For more info on the Friday night raving series
Find 'syc kite racing' on facebook
I work at Fremantle Sailing Club and in doing so. I am trying to sort something similar in Perth. Fremantle Sailing Club are willing to run races for us however they want us to become "Dinghy Members" a cost of just over $300 a year. Cheap for a Yacht Club Membership however when added to AKSA membership it adds up.
For that membership they have offered Coaching and training one evening a week and then racing with the dinghy fleets on Saturday afternoons.
